Guest guest
Beloved Souls of the Golden Chain, I dont really know what to do with a student I have so I come to ask help to this list where so many experienced people certainly will know what to do best. He is 70 - has severe low back pain and is always almost chronically tired. I tried different pranayams at a time, smooth meditations for the higher centers, tried singing mantras, heart openers etc. But he never seems to improve, is always sort of dissatisfied. I am feeling a sense of impotence for not achieving any result so far. He is having class now for over 3 months. What can I do and thanks for the feed back. Best regards, Sotanter Kaur Rio de Janeiro
Guest guest
Sat Nam Sotanter, ......I think our egos get in the way, it is not about us. We are not responsible for "fixing our students" we can only give the key, they must open the door themselves. Go on the belief that everything that is happening is supposed to, teach from your heart and let your student progress as it is intended for him. Guest guest
Sat Nam Sotanter Kaur ji, The lower back pain and the Chronic tiredness are indicating big blockages in his abdominal area. You are on the right trail by using Heart openers and pranayam. The navel and kidney have an integral connection. Our sense of reserve strength and energy comes from this area. Have him do Nabhi Kriya (in "Transitions to a Heart Centered World"). Adjust the times a little, but not too much. If he were to this in the Amrit Vela, the shortened times would be more effective. Also, Agni Sara (a great article in the most recent "Yoga International" magazine or go to http://www.newlifejournal.com/decjan05/keach.shtml for more info) or some variation of it will move tons of tension and free up a lot of energy. In "Transitions to a Heart Centered World" on p.36, the first excersise is very much like Agni Sara. Have him go deep, move with the breath while doing this. Keep the chin tucked and the mind completely in the body and with its sensations no matter what the experience or how much he might want to run away. Guest guest
Sotantar Kaur: First, it sounds as thought he is not able to integrate the energy from yoga very well. Or his energy is leaving him faster than he can integrate it. Ask him to take daily walks in nature to start with. You may even go with him and remind him about his posture and his breathing as he walks. It may be painful to his back (but not overly so) in the beginning. Then his energy will come back and his back will start feeling better. He will be better able to integrate the energy from yoga. If you're a Breathwalk instructor, teach him that. Also if he were my student I would ask him what tires him so much. He might not know at first. Or he might think he knows. He might need to feel where the energy leak is in his body before things. Perhaps he is angry about something or depressed. Walks are a great way to start for anyone!
