Guest guest
Sat Sangeet Kaur shared something incredibly important. Most people don't think they have it in them to do what she did. And most of us who went through something like that had to do it alone for the most part because we were creating a new way to handle our problems. Now there are more people thinking along the same lines. For instance: Do not think about fixing a problem or a disease or an addiction, instead think about where you'd like to be and support that which your soul is inviting you to be. Not only is it gentler but it also gives you something in the end ! That's the path to discover the soul's desire Sat Sangeet was talking about as opposed to the option our culture suggests along the lines of: "How to be thin again?" At the same time one needs to find the strength and courage to stop giving energy to the fear, the addiction, the disease. The Catholic priests who performed exorcisms already knew what to do: They would recite prayers and focus only on God and whenever the "evil manifestions" (whatever they were) appeared they would ignore them and keep their focus on God through the prayers. Sat Sangeet's experience sitting in a ball on her couch while experiencing the temptations of eating are not so far from the experience of "evil temptations". I wonder what "mantras" you kept coming back to Sat Sangeet in order to ignore the cries for food. We each have to do that in some ways in our life. People nowadays don't like to talk about Satan and the devil and such... but they work very well to express the feelings that we're experiencing in such situations. In the end it is about learning self-love. I prefer to focus on the soul's need so a meditation to stop addictions maybe useful but a new supportive practice must be created to replace the addiction otherwise we find ourself empty and exhausted. So my suggestion is to combine a meditation to stop addictive behavior with a meditation on self-love until one finds one's true desires that are being avoided by the addictive behavior. Guest guest
"I wonder what "mantras" you kept coming back to Sat Sangeet in order to ignore the cries for food"....Awtar Sat Sangeet writes: I had just returned from my first summer solstice experience and had heard Snatam's "Prem" album for the first time....so I sat down with my guitar and tried to figure out, in the limited guitar experience I had, how to play her version of "Gobinda Hari" (which translates to God my Sustainer). Well, I never figured it out, but as I tried, something new emerged. In that moment, the first song that I ever wrote came pouring out of me....I sang what seemed like forever "Gobinda Gobinda Hari Hari..." Over and over again...feeling God as the force that sustains me, rather than food etc. Lifting me up and lifting me up!! And then english verse beagn to come to me as well...and it turned out to be an 8 minute song in the end! Ha Ha! And I am happy to report 4 years after the fact, I have just finished my first recording experience and "Gobinda" was one of the songs that I recorded! So it's all come full circle! My other "all time favorite" 911 call is... "Guru Guru Wahe Guru Guru Ram Das Guru"....I learnt my love of Guru Ram Das from Guru Ganesha Singh...at my first summer solstice event, I had the privilege of having my heart opened, while he sang a love song he had written about Guru Ram Das to me in the "Ancient healing ways" trailer of all things! Ha Ha! And from there, I have always found his love of Guru Ram Das contagious! There is nothing that I'd rather do more than sing devotionally! Guest guest
Sat Nam, Thank you Sat Sangeet for sharing about how you connected with your deepest urges to eat and how you used your will to break the cycle. It is very important for everyone to know that we have to connect to yourselves and ALL our feelings and instincts to shift patterns and rechannel our energy to serve us, instead of sabotage us. Often we think that if we just do yoga everything will be different. Well, a daily KY practice certainly helps align our energies, but the inner work of staying focused on ourselves to create shifts has to be part of our regime. Including baby pose in our daily practice offers a chance to physically be cozy with ourselves. If this position is comfortable for you, then include it and stay very present to your feelings and instincts at this time. This can be a good position to "process" our emotions. (Not think about but to actually feel the energies that move through our bodies.)
