Guest guest
Dear Sue: I read somewhere that sadness is simply an attachment to the past which we'd rather feel when we're scared of the future. I have looked at it that way ever since I and it has worked every time for me. So in that light feeling sadness while doing yoga is a good sign.It shows that you are getting close to leaving the past behind and entering into a new phase of your life. Just ask yourself what it is you might be scared of about the future. I know it is common to talk about depression as the result of a chemical imbalance in our culture. But I believe the chemical imabalance is the result, not the cause. It comes when we are depressed too long. Depression is more directly related to forgetting something that we really need to pay attention to. It is when we turn off th elife force. Say when we realize we would rather be dancing than making burgers at Mc Donald's but we gloss over the soul's desire and keep doing the work for money reasons. Depression is a deeper form of boredom and they both come at first when we need to pay attention to something that matters to us. When we find it we get excited again. So when you felt depressed during the period you were doing the Kirtan Kriya, I would look at it more deeply. Kirtan Kriya is about facilitating change in one's life. But what do you want to change or change into? If you're scared of what you'd like to create in your life or resist the change in some way, depression is a natural outcome! Blessings, Awtar S.
