Guest guest
Sat Nam! Yes it is! Go slowly with the Yoga and modify other aspects of your lifestyle as well. Both Chronic Fatigue and Fibro are seen Ayurvedically as a lifestyle dis-ease. Mostly Pitta out of balance but sometimes all three Doshas are affected. Doing too much is the culprit; so your body then says to you in the form of an ache or pain,"slow down, you are doing way too much!" ...but (sigh) you don't listen because, well you are a Pitta personality so another pain, another ache, a liitle bit "louder" in the hopes you will listen.... When you "have" to go to bed or just sit all day you are sort of listening, so your body responds and feels better; so what do you do? Too much, again! If this sounds familiar, you can try listening to your body, KY will greatly help with that aspect. You could try an Ayurvedic lifestyle and supplements which will also help greatly to bring you back to balance. To learn more about Ayurveda you can check out my web sites www.skyoftheheartyoga.com and www.busydaygo.com. I have taught private lessons to several students with both CFS and Fibromyalgia and in no time at all they moved into a class setting, many of them couldn't even take a deep breath or lift their arms in the beginning because of the pain. Please e-mail me off list if you are interested in learning more about the Ayurvedic lifestyle, I'd be happy to help in anyway possible! Blessings in Health! Guest guest
Hi, Thankyou for your reply, some very good points worth considering and encouraging too. You're right about the cycle of doing too much and then resting up, it's a cycle that's very easy to get into with this illness and one that I'm working hard to get out of. It's very difficult to get out of this cycle, there are pressures from family and friends, also the guilt and frustration of not being able to do normal things that when a good day comes along it's very easy to just try to make the most of it and pack in way too much and then pay for it a couple of days later. I do have a theory about the illness and I'd be interested to hear what you think about it. I am fairly certain that I got ME after a very stressful year, I had Glandular Fever then went abroad and came back with Gastroenteritis and a virus which they haven't been able to identify this was combined with splitting up with an abusive boyfriend. Anyway I never recovered and the unidentified virus recurs whenever I've really overdone things and tired myself out too much or when generally run down. Certain things trigger relapses such as too much exertion, minor illnesses, prolonged stress etc. I call them switches and believe they switch the ME on, when they've been switched off the ME goes into remission where I believe it lurks in my system waiting for another switch to be flicked. New research into the disease has come up with some interesting results in that there are about 16 genes that get switched on into overdrive and one that gets switched off. Anyway I'm hoping that there must be a way of rebalancing the body, of purifying it and removing the things that are weakening it and thus making these switches less sensitive to their triggers. After just over 5 years of living with this illness and experimenting with my theory I'm making progress but it's very experimental and I'm basically working blind with it. What tiny results I've achieved are encouraging me to look further into different ways of getting better results. I'm interested in learning a bit more about the Ayurvedic lifestyle as it sounds like it's running along similar lines to what I'm trying to achieve, I'll send you an e-mail with a few questions... Guest guest
Dear Sue & Vicki, Doing the healing meditation at this time is a marvelous idea. Perhaps expanding the concentration to include the planet or 11 minutes concentration on Vicki's healing and 11 for the healing of all beings in need right now would be good. Guest guest
Hi, Thank you for your positive support and the suggestion of trying the healing meditation. I don't know the healing meditation, I've only just found Kundalini Yoga and what little Hatha Yoga I've tried has just been the warm-ups, I've not been well enough to progress further than that so far. So do I just sit and chant ra-ma-da-sa-sa-say-so-hung and for how long? do I need to visualize anything? I made up my own meditation type thing that helps to ease the pain in my muscles. I sit or lay down and close my eyes and calm my breathing and let my mind become still then I visualize all the pain in my muscles slowly turning to a crystal clear water. Starting with my head I visualize the water warming up and gently flowing down through my body warming each muscle as it goes and washing the pain away with it. I visualize this warming water flowing out through my limbs and extremities leaving each muscle feeling warm and heavy. Sometimes if I'm particularly stressed I'll raise the pump in my fish tank so that it disturbs the water to make a gentle stream-like sound and this helps as well. I don't know if this is a similar thing to the healing meditation? Guest guest
vicki, sat nam!! your water meditation sounds lovely! you are a natural! whenever i have any pain in my body, i visualize my breath flowing to that area (i have seen research that evaluated organs that were cancerous and they were all found to be lacking in oxygen - interesting, no?). water is a great pain-remover also (as someone else pointed out, drinking it helps too!). the ra ma da sa meditation is something else entirely. you can read about it here: http://www.susankezios.com/Meditations/Ra%20Ma%20Da%20Sa%20Meditation.htm it is not very physically demanding, if you can find a comfortable position to sit in and if the arm position is okay. probably you could modify it if needed; i have heard it said often on this list that even if you just visualize yourself doing the asanas, it will benefit you. i forget if you said where you are and whether there are any kundalini people in your area, but if you are, and if you can get yourself out of bed at four a.m. (i know i can't!), you could even go to a morning sadhana and just lie quietly, letting the group energy wash over you. aaaaaah! keep up the good work, vicki. when you keep up, you are kept up! sat nam, seattle sue
