Hello everyone,

I just joined your group yesterday. I have just started looking into yoga, so

all of this is new to me. I purchased Gurmukh's Kundalini Yoga tape yesterday

and am really looking forward to receiving it.

Can you please tell me what "Sat Nam" and "Wahe Guru" mean?

Can anyone give me any tips for starting out since Kundalini will be the first

yoga I have tried?

I look forward to learning a lot from all of you.

Thank you very much,

Check for this page kundalini yogamantra.html or

http://www.susankezios.com/Information/Mantras%20for%20Aquarian%20Sadhanna.htm

(they are just two of the many pages you can find with any search engine).

dear chris,

welcome to our group, and to the experience of kundalini yoga!

congratulations! i am far from being one of the more experienced or

knowledgeable people here, but i can tell you this little bit:

"sat nam" means, roughly, "truth is my identity.sat" means "truth,"

and "nam" means name. it is used sometimes as a greeting or a blessing,

and often as a mantra. when you are doing a kundalini exercise you can

vibrate this mantra mentally, thinking as you inhale "sat" and as you

exhale "nam." it helps you focus. sometimes i find myself sat-nam-ing

even when i don't mean to, haha!

"wahe guru" is roughly equivalent to "hallelujiah." it is a way of

celebrating the divine. also i have heard it translated as "woo-hoo!"

it's used a lot to acknowledge something wonderful, as in when someone

makes a breakthrough, or to just praise the teacher who brings us an

enlightening lesson - whatever form the teacher might take.

my only tip for starting out is: keep up! and you will be kept up!! wahe

guru!! (haha!)

sat nam,

seatttle sue

Dear Chris:

Where in New England do you live? Are there any classes around you? Tapes

and CD's are great ,I have several, but nothing beats being part of a group.
