Guest guest
I have this kara (one of those sikh bracelets) I was given, and I like wearing it except that it discolors my skin a yellowish-orange. It's really old, so I'm not sure what metal it's made out - steel, maybe? I was wondering if anyone had any ideas? I was thinking perhaps I could get it coated with something? Thanks. Guest guest
Hi Brian, I have been around Karas for 2 decades and have never seen one discolor the skin. The Kara used by the folks I know (numbering over a thousand) are made of stainless steel. Occasionally I see some kind of grayish, not shiny steel on a guy but never saw, or heard complaints of skin discoloration. It's sound like you have something other than pure steel and certainly not stainless steel. For those of you wondering what we're talking about, here's a decent link http://www.canteach.ca/elementary/sikhism8.html Sat Nam, Dharam Singh ( not a metallurgist ) Millis, MA nitawabrian wrote: > I have this kara (one of those sikh bracelets) I was given, and I like > wearing it except that it discolors my skin a yellowish-orange. Guest guest
Sat Nam everyone, Brian, Kara are either made out of Iron or steel, I think you may have one made out of iron. I read an article and it mention something about Kara. Go the www.exoticindia.com and check out an article called The spiral serpent, I am not sure of the title, but it was last months artical of the month. I have a question, dose some one have to give you a kara or can you buy them somewhere? Guest guest
Sat Nam Brian, When I wear the Kara "some" have broken my skin out in a rash, which I believe was due to it also containing nickle, I say this because other jewelry that has nickle in it has given me a rash...such as watches etc...& what I have done is coated it with clear fingernail polish, just a thought...when its pure stainless steel, I don't have the rash...
