Guest guest
Sat Nam All, I have been experiencing waves of heat and insomnia whilst and after practicing Sadhana. The energy is in my head, thus causing me not to sleep. What can I do to bring it down, or shall I let it run it's course? Please also tell me if there is anything to worry about, as well as, are these symptoms of an acute premature Kundalini Rising? This is actually the second time this has occurred, yet silly me went on to google my symptoms and all sorts of worriesome info came forth, such as refraining from Kundalini and Yoga, the computer, eating sugar and bread for grounding. As someone who is teaching Kundalini, should I refrain from teaching too? Blessings & love to all, Bliss Cohen
Guest guest
Many kundalini yoga practitioners experience an aggravated vata dosha, I've noticed. If the problem doesn't go away by itself I would suggest you look into doing some specific exercises to counteract that problem. Mr. Google, or David Frawley, can help you with that. Guest guest
Dear Bliss: Something about what you are saying sound strange. I have heard of beginners experiencing so much energy after a morning yoga class that they cannot sleep well that same night. But after a few classes this problem goes away as Kundalini Yoga strengthens their nervous system. Do you do your Sadhana in the presence of others and in the presence of teachers in particular? I am curious how you practice Kundalini yoga. Kundalini yoga is the best way to avoid sudden surges of energy ("kundalini rising") that the body can't handle. What you read on the internet about Kundalini Yoga is mostly wrong unless it is in a site offered by practicing kundalini yoga teachers. So please keep teaching... but study with a teacher who can watch your practice and guide you! Blessings, Awtar Rochester, NY
Guest guest
Sat Nam Atwar, Thank you for getting back to me. My Sadhana practice is done in private, but again needed to stop because of the intense heat I believe it has generated in the past and now very recently. During my Kundalini practice I've noticed that this heat also rises during Sat Kriya and any exercise requiring locks. Yes, I do take Hatha, Vinyassa & Kundalini classes at a yoga studio, but most times I do my practice in the privacy of my home. If this helps at all, I've had my annual check-up, and my doctor confirmed all is in order, including my bloodwork/hormone levels, and has assured me that I'm not old enough to be going through periomenopause. Could it be possible that my body is releasing toxins via sweating? Please also know that my diet is very healthy, and includes wheatgrass and organic produce. A big thanks in advance for any light you can shed upon this query. Blessings and profound peace to you, Bliss
Guest guest
sat nam Bliss, it sounds like the heat of kundalini energy rising. There are a couple of things you can do to make the experience more manageable. The first, and most important, is to learn how to ground your energy. This can be done after your practice simply by taking the time to relax and integrate your experience. Or you can sit or stand and imagine that any excess energy is flowing out from your feet into the earth (this is most effective when done outside). Think of it as sharing your energy with the earth or planet in a loving way. Also, if you're someone who has a tendency to push very hard, who is very achievement oriented (as different from experience oriented) then perhaps you're just pushing a bit too hard or a bit more than is comfortable. if you're finding that the energy rising is making you fearful or very uncomfortable just start approaching all the forms of yoga you're practicing in a more gentle manner and that should soften and slow the process (fast is not always best, yoga is not a race or a competition). Take the time to integrate and understand what you're experiencing, respect your body and its current limits. Essentially if you approach it as an experience from a non-judgmental and observing perspective you can explore the energy and become more comfortable with it. Eventually you'll know and trust the energy and your own ability to moderate it. However it's very important to learn how to ground the energy you're generating so that you can use it in a way that is comfortable and natural for you. Remember, yoga is about the experience love ovasoul
