Guest guest
Sat Nam to All, As part of my 2nd 40 sadhana for teacher training (and for life in general), I will be doing 11 minutes of Sodarshan Chakra Kriya. Can anyone recommend a set to precede this? My character defects have been doing me the great favor of letting me know exactly what they are and I am hoping the Kriya will clear me of this negativity. I did White Tantric Yoga on 11-12-05 and have been much more aware of what aspects of my mind are affecting me from day to day, but not seeing clearly the path to change. I've tried it a few times in the recent past and have felt almost a panic in my chest as if I cannot draw enough breath. I do have asthma, but this is not an asthma attack. The asthma is generally only active in the spring. I guess just relaxing into the meditation and the sensation is part of the process, right. Guest guest
Sat Nam, How about 11 minutes of Sat Kriya, followed by 11 minutes of Kirtan Kriya (Sa-Ta-Na-Ma)(2 min aloud/2min whisper /3 min silent /2 min whisper and 2 min aloud) followed by 11 Min of SoDarshan Chakra Kriya. It really feels great. Precede this with at least 10-15 min of pranayams and warm ups and you'll have strong and complete daily practice. As for the panic that occurs, well you KNOW that your body's not going to allow your head to explode or anything, right. So with SDK simply do your best if you only get to 35 of the intended 48 pumps, that's OK. Allow yourself the grace to work up to it. No one's perfect on their first try at any thing. It takes practice. (Which is what we're doing anyway!) "Relaxing into the meditation" is the perfect way to put it. We are learning to be comfortable with our divinity, the earth based physical body isn't quite so trusting as you'd like. So trust that you can do the right thing in every phase of your life and it will start happening. As for not seeing clearly the path to change, you have to remember you are ON the path and the big view is rarely available until we can look back a bit. That might be on our deathbed when we know and "know" that we've been doing the right thing, even if we haven't been doing it perfectly. Guest guest
Sat Nam Joan! The key to release negativity is to feed the new you that you want to become. Ignore the negativity! Don't give it the time of the day! Instead when it shows its ugly head, smile and remember it does not own you (whether you believe this or not) and remember the beauty of that you choose to be. That's all! You see the negativity the Sodarshan Chakra Kriya brings up so that you can choose to ignore it and choose what you want to replace it with. Life is really very simple from that perspective. I hear the voices in me saying: "Oh! But you're not taking responsibility for your negativity! Look. you are this negativity!" But that's just more negativity, right? So I just need to smile, no need to fight. let the negativity try to get my attention. And instead for paying attention ask myself gently: "so. like I was saying. where's that wealth and beauty I am discovering about me." Blessings! Awtar S. Guest guest
Sat Nam, Joan! I did SCK for 11 minutes for my teacher training last year and am still doing it. I'm also asthmatic, and also had panic and difficulty settling down to do this Kriya. For me, it was a constant battle to relax while pumping the navel point. I was going fast, cuz I had to breathe, but I needed to relax at the same time and this is, I think, exactly the situation the kriya is designed to create. So, in the midst of some truly deep despair at around day 18 or 20, just when I was thinking about giving up, not only on SCK but on yoga in general (!), but at the same time working the navel and trying to relax, I suddenly ....did it! :-) I've been doing it along with Sat Kriya and Kirtan Kriya (22 minutes each of these now) for the past 9 months. I really love it. I worked up to the 22 mins of Sat and Kirtan Kriya -- started with 11 mins of each. Gurucharan Singh advised me to come to complete stillness after the Kirtan and be very conscious of the mantra and the pumping -- that was very effective advice! I was very proud of myself for doing the 40 days -- I offer you strong encouragement and blessings, Avneesh Singh
Guest guest
Sat Nam Joan You might need to build to 11 minutes - try preceding SCK with some long deep breathing, retaining the breath after the inhale. On the first breath, hold for a couple seconds, then maybe 5, then 10, etc. I usually take a few breaths like this first, to prepare myself for the extreme retention that sck calls for. And when I start SCK I generally pump my navel pretty lightly at first, and ease into it, so that after about 7 or 8 minutes, I can really pump hard. Also, be sure to completely relax the navel after each pump - that way you won't be building up undue tension in the abdomen. hope it helps love Ardas ________ DSL – Something to write home about.
