Problem with water retention

Sat Nam and Happy New Year,

I seem to have a problem with water retention in my legs and around my

waist. It has been this way for a while now. I was wondering if it could be

a circulation problem. If this is a circulation problem, how could I

increase the circulation to my legs. I started soon after I quite smoking.

Since I am under (some what) a lot of stress I have been doing the stress

relief meditation and that helps with the kidneys and adrenal glands.

I would like to know if there is a way to get ride of it. I have been

drinking a lot of detox and green tea and water. Since watermelons are not

available at this time, they are not an option. Is there such a thing as

buying watermelon juice anywhere?

Any insight or a way to reslove this problem would be well appreciated.

Sadhana,

I study herbs too and I also have a problem with the water retention. It can

mean lots of things. For one, do you drink enough water.. Half your body

weight.. I do and still have the problem. Does your heart race at all ?? Do

you feel any numbing in your limbs or body ?? I know circulation can be apart

of it and also the heart pump.. Hawthorn is very good for regulating and

strengthening the pump of the heart and circulation. I usually use the berries

in tea. I usually take 2 berries and crush them and put them in my tea and

drink every day this. It truly strengthens the heart and muscle.. Helps the

circulation.. Chickweed is good for a duretic but I wanted to address the root

of it instead so use the Hawthorn. Sometimes if we become less active this can

occur. But, I have struggled with this my whole life and since I was young. I

usually run 5 miles a day.. When I do.. I dont have too much of a problem.. I

really feel like our hearts need to work out. I know

there is lots of people that claim we only have so many heart beats so why use

them up by walking fast or running but I think that theory in my opinion is

nonsense .. Too many people live longer that do this..

Anyway,, take care.. Jewels

Dear Sadhana Seva:

Cigarette smoking causes the veins to be less elastic. That's what led to

your water retention. How long ago did you stop smoking?

It takes some time to for the veins to regain their elasticity. Keep

exercising. To improve circulation lay on your back with your legs up. They

can even be supported against a wall. Sleep with a pillow under your feet to

keep them up a little above your heart.

Use a clean diet. Include oils there are cold pressed and uncooked to help

with the lining of your stomach that will help you digest better the

nutrients you need to heal your body.

Sat Nam everyone,

Awtar,Jewels

I stopped smoking April 13, 2005. I do not think my blood pressure not is

high, but I can always check it anytime I need to do so. As for my

cholesterol level I have no idea, I guess now would be the time to get my

"mid-life blood" work done.

My stomach problems seem to be getting much better since I stopped smoking,

I now have more than one bowl movement a day as apposed to one every two or

three days sometimes even longer. I noticed eating a lot of wheat (whole

grain) products and drinking more water also helped. I now have to start

working on getting my lungs back in shape.

I do not have any problems with my heart, it seems to be keeping a steady

beat. Thank you both for taking to time to respond.
