Guest guest
Sat Nam Richard, I am going to give you name of Carl Phillips ( crlphl or crlphl). He is very fair in his pricing. I know of several people who have been way overcharged by like 30%. The Gongs made by Paiste ( http://www.paiste.com/products/gongs/default.php )are what you want and you'll want a 28", at least. I paid under a grand, five years ago for that 28" Gong, a stand, a mallet and a carrying bag. If you don't plan to travel with it you can save a bunch by leaving out the bag. You can also Google "Paiste Gong" to inform yourself a bit before committing. music123.com and musiciansfriend.com are good but I don't see the carrying bags/cases. Talk to Carl. "e" me for his phone number. PeACe, Dharam richard jones wrote: >Hello, richard jones here.my question is,where to buy a good gong? Also,is >there any cds you could recommend? Guest guest
Sat Nam Prithi Kaur, Oh gosh, I wasn't going to say anything but since you've asked........ I've played them both. For 8 years ('88 - '90) all we had was a big Zildjian in Millis that was gifted by students. While playing it I always had to search hard for a little bit of sweet spot on the Zildjian that resonated even a little bit close to the Paiste, and then I had to stay on that spot. In playing the Gong you need to have the whole gong available. The first time I played I had a chance to play the Paiste (Symphonic) I knew why Yogi Bhajan used one. There was no going back! I imagine I might one day run into another monster Gong somewhere in Asia but I feel pretty good about the Paiste. Also, it may be that Zildjian started making better gongs since that time but based on my past and "limited" experience, there is no comparison. In deciding which gong to buy, if one isn't sure then they must go and play both. Trying to stay neutral, Dharam P.S. Never let anyone play your Gong who doesn't know what they are doing. It needs to be "warmed up" to the point that it plays cleanly and resonates with even the slightest mallet stroke. To ignore this will ruin your gong. Guest guest
Dharam, Just curious why you recommend the Paiste over the Zildjian gong. The two other people I know who have gongs both have Zildjians also and are happy with them. Thanks, Prithi
