Guest guest
Hello, I just joined and have some questions. I am new to Kundalini Yoga and have no idea where exactly to begin. I have done alot of reading on the subject but this has left me with more questions. I am a 40 year old female with alot of physical/emotional problems and alot of mental baggage from my past. I have heard that if you are not mentally sound release of the Kundalini can damage you further. I am not sure I am ready to face my inner demons yet. I want to learn to meditate, can I get into the meditation aspect of it without going so deep to waken the Kundalini? I have some physical problems that may make the Yoga excercises difficult to impossible for me, are they all nessasary on this journey? Does anyone have any thoughts on the SRF? Thanks Kristina
Guest guest
Dear Kristina: What you have read about kundalini yoga is not necessarily true. You are already facing your inner demons by just noticing what emotional stuff you face. There is nothing more to face than what is coming to you naturally every day. Kundalini Yoga will not make more demons come. Kundalini yoga is about strengthening your nervous system so your energy flows better and you can handle what you need to face more gracefully. The notion that Kundalini rising too fast may damage someone is real, but Kundalini yoga is a technology to avoid exactly that problem because it strengthens you so you can handle any Kundalini rising. No fear. Do Kundalini yoga with a teacher, meditate and you will be fine. I don't know what SRF is. Do you have the complete words? Blessings, Awtar S. Guest guest
Thank you for your words of wisdom. SRF is The Self Realization Fellowship. What exactly is Kundalini? Is it energy? Why can it harm you if it rises to fast and what happens to you after it is fully released? Can this process take several lifetimes? I suggest you two books really useful for the beginners: - Introduction to Kundalini Yoga (Gururattan Kaur) - Sadhana Guidelines (Gurucharan S. Khalsa) I'm pretty sure you will find some answers........and a good point to start having more deep questions :-) > I am a 40 year old female with alot of > physical/emotional problems and alot of mental baggage > from my past. For what i know (and for sure i know just a little bit of Kundalini Yoga......it's amazing learning day by day, step by step) i suppose that the pratice can be dangerous just following a bad teacher or the wrong informations. During the pratice gradually you will face your demons. The little ones when the pratice will make you ready to face the little ones and growing (especially in your confidence) you will be surprised for the way you will be able to face also the bigger demons scaring you now. Just be honest with your pratice: don't be lazy but don't do too much. > I want to learn to meditate, can I get into the > meditation aspect of it without going so deep to waken > the Kundalini? If you do a good work (purification, cleansing) on your nadi (i hope the english translation is the same as in italian) there's no reason to let the kundalini asleep. For this reason is the basis to follow a good teacher able to guide and support you. > I have some physical problems that may make the Yoga > excercises difficult to impossible for me, are they > all nessasary on this journey? I had four surgeries to my knees (three on the left one, one on the right one) so i have some problems on some excercises (as celibate pose): a good teacher will give you a variant for the excercises too difficult for you (as it happens to me). First of all, the rule of rules: respect your body. Yoga is not competition. If you can't do 108 frogs do it your best: if you arrive to 108 forcing and hurting your body the days after you will not walk: yoga doesn't ask that!!! I wish you to find a good teacher (or true/good informations)...and good luck! Greetings from Italy! AC Sujan Singh (hoping you can understand my italian/english mix)

If you will meet a good teacher he/she should be focused on you, not on your wallet! Tell him/her what you wrote here, i'm sure you will find a way! Money can't be a reason to do not teach to someone asking for your help. Good luck! AC Sujan Singh
