Guest guest
Sat Nam Dear Yogis, I have a citrus allergy, which I discovered at women's camp a few years ago. It is not a strong reaction as of now - I have a very odd sensation around the sinus area under my eyes, as though something were evaporating off of my skin, and it prickles a bit in this area. I feel it when I eat anything acidic, including fruits, vinegars, even if a lemon touches my water. This concerns me, not only because I can't eat a lot of these things anymore, but also because of the many recipes and remedies I have read about, acidic foods can do a lot of good in terms of cleansing (pineapple juice for kidneys, e.g.). Does anybody know if there is a way to reverse the allergy, or somehow to treat it? Is it an imbalance that I can correct? Many thanks in advance, Peace and love to all, Satya Kaur -- relax and breathe!
Guest guest
Sat Nam. Maintaining as pure a diet as you can is the best way to deal with allergies. After you have "maintained" for a while, (say 40 days) slowly and in small amounts add the thing you're allergic to back into your diet. The reaction may be less than before or nonexistent. You can gauge the severity of the reaction as an indicator of how allergic you actually are. Increase the allergenic agent until you get to an intolerant level. Back off again, or if the reaction is severe take some more time off. I have a wheat gluten allergy and even the mildest dose sends me off to sleep. I live with it now as payment for a childhood filled with white bread. Citric acid is powerful stuff, so be careful. Pure water is very cleansing, it's not as fast working as an acid but it's easier to tolerate. Guest guest
Hi Satya Kaur Here are some suggestions: 1 There is a school of thought that the different blood types have sensitivities to different foods. Meaning your body chemistry just does not tolerate certain foods very well. In that case it is a matter of managing your diet according to your natural sensitivities and eating food types that suit you. 2 Your body may be in too acidic a state, so that eating acidic foods in particular creates an overdose effect and causes the reaction. As well as keeping as pure a diet as you can, as already suggested to you, you could try maintaining it with mostly alkaline foods (75% alkaline and 25% acid foods), and when you have been on that for the 40 days, try one acid type food and see how you react, to try and find your limit. It is always a matter of seeing what works for you. 3 I have sensitivities to gluten and acid foods though pineapple is OK. I just avoid the problem foods, use alternatives and am fine. 4 I find that a particularly good balancing food for acidity and gluten reactions is the golden milk recipe altered a bit. In a blender I wizz up 2 bananas, 1 cup yoghurt (with acidophilus, bifidus and casei cultures), 1/4 cup water, the turmeric paste and almond oil.
