Guest guest
Hey, anyone here do bound lotus? I've been practicing it for almost 3 years (not every single day - but most recently, 31 min. every day since Oct 31, 2005) and have been experiencing diminished circulation to my feet and hands, especially the toes, which are often a scary red-purple color. I love the bound lotus and don't want to give it up, but I want the blood to circulate normally! I do lots of stretching before getting into the posture, and usually I'm only mildly numb by the time I come out of it. (Numbness is very common for those who practice bound lotus). Any suggestions? thanks love Ardas
Guest guest
Sat Nam, I guess you need to decide what you value most: continued practice of a powerful yogic kriya; or circulation of the blood. It really isn't that serious as long as the circulation returns to normal in a timely manner. This may be an indication you are "forcing" things a bit. Perhaps you could cut the time back to the point the diminished circulation stops and then extend it slowly if you must. "Mildly numb" doesn't sound alarming. After all, one of the purposes of the kriya is to restrict the circulation in the lower limbs so that energy can be focused in the upper areas of the body. Have fun, don't hurt yourself (or anyone else)! Guest guest
Sat Nam, I practiced Bound lotus for a six month period. When I first began I was doing the full posture and experiencing extreme numbness and felt like my knee caps may blow off after the first 15 minutes...and also feeling alot of fear around "what if my knee caps blow off??" So I was telling my teacher about this shortly after beginning and he told me that the most important part of Bound Lotus is to be able to deeply relax into it in order to experience a state of consciousness where deep healing can occur. So he suggested that I try half lotus, rather than the full lotus. It made all of the difference. I was also listening to the "Ray Man" Shabd while in it, but I would go into such a deep state of relaxation that my body would actually be asleep (not asleep as in numb and no circulation, but as in the way the body goes to sleep in bed at night), but I would remain lucid in my consciousness, while my body slept. I later found out that that sate of consciousness is called Yoga Nidra and it's extremely healing to experience it. Guest guest
Sat Nam Ardas I've only done 176 days of bound lotus so far (31 minutes). I used to have problems with numbness in the beginning but it hardly ever happens these days. If it does it's only for the last few minutes and even that goes as soon as I stretch my legs out afterwards. I do an hour of warm ups before, exercises that were given to enable us to have the flexibility to stay in bound lotus. E-mail me directly if you're interested and I can send them to you.
