Guest guest
I'd appreciate some advice on what to do about some stomach/intestinal pain/irritation/bloating I've been having for a couple years. I've had my entire GI tract scanned, and I also had a CAT scan, but they were all normal. It could be a parasite that I may or may not still have (I lived in Africa for 2 years), so I'm considering a parasite cleanse (drnatura.com - anyone done this one before?). Any thoughts? Thanks, Brian
Guest guest
Hi Brian Just something else to consider; intestinal pain, irritation and bloating are also symptoms of food allergy or sensitivity, gluten in particular. You could consider going off all gluten containing foods to see if that alleviates the symptoms. You may need to get some professional advice on this. A recipe that can help alleviate such allergy symptoms is a modification of the golden milk recipe: 1 cup plain yoghurt (with acidophilus, bifidus, casei cultures), 1/4 cup water, 1-2 bananas, 1/8 teaspoon tumeric paste, 2 tablespoons raw almond oil, all whizzed together in a blender.(among other things, Turmeric helps strengthen the digestion and improves intestinal flora, as does the yoghurt.) This recipe is more alkaline than than acid and is soothing for the digestive system. Guest guest
Hi Brian and all, I highly recommend a consult with an ayurvedic doctor. I had persistent stomach complaints and a diagnosis of diverticulitis. On a recurrence of the problems I went to an ayurvedic MD in Massachusetts -- Jay Glaser. Diagnosed an imbalance of vatta, prescribed some herbs and a change in diet, eliminate coffee, and eat "hing" with my oatmeal. problem solved! Guest guest
Hi Michael, Which herbs did your ayurvedic physician prescribe for you? I also have had serious problems with digestion. In fact, I became malnourished and developed pernicious anemia because I was not absorbing nutrients in my food. My ayurvedic physician has literally turned this all around with herbs, diet, and lifestyle changes. I might also add that I didn't take the time to nourish myself, which affected my ability to digest food. While eating, I often stood up, argued, read magazines, watched TV..... I became aware of how little time I took to nourish and pamper myself, and feel gratitude for my food. I took care of everyone else, but me. I am a pretty typical out of balance vatta....and I talk way too much! Blessings, Nirmal Kaur Anacortes, WA

Guest guest
Hi! I did the drnatura.com as a cleanse, even though I did not have a parasite (at least I don't think so). It was a gentle, yet effective cleanse and I felt better even while doing the cleanse (I'd had a lot of colitis/stomach irritation, etc), so I would say that this one is worth a try. I hope it helps. nitawabrian <nitawabrian wrote: I'd appreciate some advice on what to do about some stomach/intestinal pain/irritation/bloating I've been having for a couple years. Guest guest
Hi Nirmal and Marcy, the Ayurvedic doc prescribed "Hingvastak" from Banyan Botanicals. I am pure Pitta with a Vatta imbalance which gets worse during the winter... "Hing" is some very strange stuff -- it's like a resin, a solid dense block from which I scraped a 1/4 t at a time into oatmeal. You can find it in an Indian food store, or possibly through the 'net. Good point on the subject of enjoying your food. I also get way overextended and then compound it by not taking care of basic functions, like eating and sleeping. The doc also suggested eating more fresh foods and taking note to eat lots of different colors during a meal. I thought that was interesting. Quitting coffee made a big difference too.... :-) Love and Light, Avneesh
Guest guest
Hi Brian Just another thought. If you want a self-help book containing information that describes how foods can help you, "Foods for Health and Healing" based on the teachings of Yogi Bhajan. In it there is information on the liver, and liver cleansing foods. In the book, care of the liver is described as one of the most important aspects of preventative medicine. Also, Chinese medicine links imbalance in the liver to digestive disturbances. >
