Vitamins for muscular strength

Hello Akkama,

it is not vitamins that strengthen muscles. Weight bearing exercises

strengthen them and you need to eat enough good quality protein so you

body can build muscle. (If you don't eat enough protein your body will

use muscle for energy not fat or the energy you have consumed as food.

This is why weight lifters use protein powders and eat lots of eggs

and steak.) So protein and exercise are the key to building strong

muscles :) If you want to build muscle size then lifting weights or

yoga postures where you hold up your body will help. If it's just

generally strength then just using your muscles a lot will suffice so

any intensive activity like running will aslso help build strength.)

If you find you are having frequent muscle cramps the mineral

(minerals are different than vitamins) magnesium can help. However

when you take supplements be sure that they're part of a balanced

diet. It is always best to get vitamins and minerals from food :)

Just a thought that comes to mind whenreading this, the extremely simple

strength builder called Zuan Zhuang could beof benefit. Some call it Standing

like a tree in English.

It can be performed by standing in aspecific position (Kinda like a cowboy

riding a horse) with knees bent and backstraight, arms shaped as if hugging a

tree in front of you.

Using this extremely simple exercise for10 to 20 minutes a day builds up a vast

amounts of strength and strength butamazingly without building much muscle mass.

Don’t be fooled by thesimplicity though, it gets quite demanding after 10

Mins. ;)

hello Akkama,

magnesium won't help strengthen muscles and you may well already get

enough mangnesium in your diet (women are morely likely to need

supplements). One or two small pieces of dark, 70% cocoa chocolate is

a good source of magnesium (this is why women often crave chocolate

around their menses) but milk chocolate and chocolate candies are not

recommended. Swiss chard, spinach, pumpkin seeds (raw), sunflower and

sesame seeds are all good sources of magnesium. If you start taking

supplements or eating a lot of these things and then develop diarrhea

it means you're ingesting too much magnesium. Magnesium works in

balance with calcium and vitaminD so if you get out of balance with

magnesium it will effect the absorption and use of calcium.

You can find lots of information on the internet about the nutritional

content of foods. I'd advise you to do a bit of research and to start

understanding for yourself how what you eat effects your body.

The most important things for building stronger muscles are exercise

(it doesn't matter what you eat, if you don't exercise then you will

just get fat not build muscle strength). Strength and endurance

training require gradually building up your muscle strength and

endurance through physical training. There is absolutely no other way.

Eating proper amounts of protein is also important combined with

weight and/or endurance training. Just taking magnesium supplements

will do absolutely no good and may even do some harm if you don't know

how to balance it with other vitamins and minerals. I would advise

visiting a nutritionalist if you want to understand this further.
