Guest guest
Sat Nam All, My name is Saffron, a new member to the group of Kundalini Yoga. I have been practicing Kundalini for several years and love the benefits it provides me. However, whilst practicing, my metabolism has slowed down due to the meditations, in turn, I've noticed an increase in my weight. I'll get straight to the point here...I have been forever struggling with my weight, and although I am not overweight by any means, the extra stones/pounds, are making feel rather depressed. It is very important for me that my weight is kept at a certain level, and to do so, I have been using phentermine, which as many of you may know, increases the metabolism. Without the use of phentermine, I seem to put the weight back on rather quickly. Please know that I have tried so many different diets, breathing techniques, all of which provide no gratifying results at all. Please share whatever help you my have. Blessings, Saffron
Guest guest
Dearest Saffron, it's rather boring but the only effective way to lose weight and keep it off is to eat less and exercise more. It really is all about balancing out the amount of calories we consume and use (apart from the relatively rare situation where there's an underlying medical cause). Keeping a food journal so you're actually aware of what you eat each day (and drink, we can drink a lot of calories!) and when and why you eat it is the first step in becoming conscious eaters. It's important to take the time to prepare fresh and nourishing food, eating slowly and attentively to the taste and texture of our food, and only eating to feed our physical bodies and when we're actually physically hungry (not emotionally hungry or bored and hungry for diversion). Some form of aerobic exercise every day is necessary, from a 45 minute walk to something more vigorous. The attitude we bring to these lifestyle changes is also important. If we do them with a sense that we are depriving ourselves and punishing ourselves we will of course rebel. If we understand that looking after our physical being is an act of self love and that by looking after our physical being we are also looking after our emotional and mental well being then we approach all these actions differently and with a sense of self love and joy. Also, be very careful about taking diet pills and practicing breath of fire if you are over your healthy weight. Diet pills are either amphetamines or caffeine, both of which increase heartrate and blood pressure. Breath of fire also increases heartrate and blood pressure so it can be a potentially lethal combination. Lastly, work on loving and accepting yourself as you are now. You can't change anything if you don't accept the reality of where you are now. And you can't choose loving actions if your mind and heart are busy with critical and unkind commentary towards yourself. You don't have to love being overweight (that's a condition not who you are) but you can love yourself and love and appreciate your body as the vehicule that has gotten you this far in your life and served you so well. Perhaps your body really deserves some acceptance, kindness and praise? blessings ovasoul
