Guest guest
Hello all, I am new to this group. I have been interested in yoga fora very long time and i really like its philosophies. I just need a starting point. I'm always really busy and probably can't devote much time to yoga practice. If i can only do a little bit, are some things more important than others (for example breathing, poses, meditation)? if so, is there a very elementary place i can start on because to be honest, i'm a stressed out college student with stiff muscles and bad breathing technique. Also, I've been trying to eat better. I am a vegetarian. I am a skiny guy because I am an avid runner, but I eat so much sometimes, that i disgust myself and feel gluttonous. I know that yoga emphasises moderation and that people should stopi eating when they're full. However, it is very hard for me to realize when I'm full. I tried very hard for about a week, surviving on almost nothing and I felt good, but i think if i did that for too long I would definitely be deficient in nutrients. How can i better realize when I am full? and once i can do this, how can i get all the nutrients i need without eating more than fills me up? Thanks in advance. Sincerely, Yoni
Guest guest
Dear Yoni: I can feel from your e-mail that you don't breathe between your thoughts. And if you eat like you think, you can certainly not feel when you're full! First thing to do is to slow down so you can get in your body and start feeling how your body feels. Try this simple exercise to feel your right shoulder. Then feel your left shoulder. Then feel both at the same time. Ask yourself whether they feel the same or not. If not, what differences do you feel? Does one feel closer to your spine than the other? Higher than the other? Tighter or denser? How do you know you feel hungry? When you eat, feel from that same place you felt from that told you you felt hungry. Instead of stopping when you feel full, stop before you feel full! You can't feel the food in the belly before it reaches the belly and that takes a while! Make sure you eat your greens and fruit. Most people eat too much protein and carbs. When you practice yoga, feel your whole body as much as you can and relax areas that feel tight by breathing into them. Go slow! I would suggest you find a Kundalini yoga teacher rather than practice on your own. You can check www.yogatech.com website to find teachers. Guest guest
Kundalini Yoga: Kundalini Yoga Breath, sound and meditation are the main resources of kundalini yoga. For example, a school of Kundalini yoga is probably best recognised for its frequent use of 'Breath of Fire' and the mantra 'Sat Nam'. Breath of Fire is a breathing exercise where you inhale and exhale rapidly through the nose without pausing, and pump the navel point while using the abdomen as a bellows. Sat Nam means 'truth is my identity' and, as a chant, is used to stop mind chatter by creating a rhythm that produces higher consciousness. - yoga.list Kundaliniyoga Monday, March 27, 2006 4:14 PM Re: Kundalini Yoga new member with a few questions I am new member to this group.
