Guest guest
sat nam karyn and everyone, funny, yesterday afternoon i was thinking about how much i'd like to have a way to discuss parenting with any parents who might be on this list, and here was your email yesterday evening! i live in seattle so i can't do anything face to face/in real life with you in the east bay, but maybe we could start a seperate to at least chat online about issues? any others interested? i'd also loooooove it if we had a women's group; if anyone's interested in that, let me know too. i realize many people are already overinundated with email, but if there are some who aren't, maybe one or both of these ideas could get off the ground! love and blessings, seattle sue karynleigh2 wrote: >I am also a mom of 2 boys, aged 2 and 4 and have recently moved back from Italy where >they were born to my native California. Guest guest
Hi Seattle Sue, I am interested in discussing parenting and women's issues online and have one friend who is a mom and has done some yoga in Seattle who you might talk to. I am following the online course and feeling and seeing how much I learn from my boys about myself and my own journey and how much I hope to help them have as joyous and abundant a life as possible. Also how challenging it is for me to be a parent because I LOVE MY KIDS but I also need lots of time to myself and am really appreciating working full time and that my husband is caring for the kids, but this is also a temporary situation. I just picked up a simple but for me helpful new book by Deepak Chopra called THE SEVEN SPIRITUAL LAWS FOR PARENTS: Everything is possible; If you want to get something, give something; When you make a choice, you change the future; Don't say no--go with the flow; Every time you wish or want, you plant a seed; Enjoy the journey; You are here for a reason. They are great reminders for myself and things I hope to live so as to impart to my kids. My vision is to create a yoga center with a full preschool/daycare and options for kids while their parents participate in classes or meditations, etc. Also with activities to do together as a family. Local churches and synagogues are so far ahead of the yoga community where childcare and activities are concerned and I have this sense that I am here to make such a community happen. But of course I need others who share the vision and a workable plan to set into motion. Sat Nam, Karyn Berkeley, CA
Guest guest
Sat Nam Karyn, have you ever considered opening a centre that was purely yogic daycare and after school yoga classes for kids and teens? It seems to me that there'd be a greater demand for something of this sort (not to denigrate your original idea in any way). I've never seen this done before, there's certainly a need for alternative daycares and after school programs (where else there are lots of yoga centres these days, though childcare may be harder to find). You could offer classes for adults as well (perhaps only on the weekends?) but if you made the childcare aspect your focus you'd certainly be starting something special and innovative. If you thought about perhaps incorporating child educators or art therapist to guide special activities you'd really have soemthing unique that I'm sure many parents would be willing to pay good money for. Of course, this idea may not interest you at all and you may not want to be working with kids that intensely. I hope my suggestions aren't an imposition. This is, of course, your dream to dream! I just read your email and had a flash of inspiration that I felt worth sharing. blessings ovasoul
Guest guest
Dear Ovasoul, Thank you for your inspiring and not at all imposing idea. I have thought about this a lot and do believe you are absolutely right that a full yogic daycare and afterschool program would be the way to go. I am just not in the financial position to do it on my own so am looking for others to join in making this happen. I plan to go around and leave announcements in all the local yoga studios and parenting centers to find families who may be interested. I don't have the qualifications to teach on my own nor do I think I'd choose to only be with kids all day every day, but I definitely believe there is a need and that this could be a very successful, light and love nurturing endeavor. Luckily I have some time from my day job to do groundwork. Again, thank you for responding in truth and light, Sat Nam, Karyn
