Guest guest
Thank you both for illuminating responses. Doing without a Guru's words or guidance in attaining Self-knowledge must be like trying to write a PhD. dissertation without a bibliography or advisor. Is it even possible unless one is a remarkably spiritually advanced being already? An Avatar perhaps. We obey the least road signs that tell us of speed laws, exits and directions. Yet we question the need to obey any road signs spiritually! Our hearts are the most powerful pointer, they swing without question toward the magnet of love that is Amma, it is left to our "educated and rational" mind to catch up to this primitive powerhouse of instinctive understanding. Not to discount the Zen teaching in any way here ((in fact, they say it is important to question one's Guru in whichever way one's mind needs to in order to understand through Jnana (intellectually) what the heart understands through Bhakti (faith)), but it is a much harder way to walk through which to pursue self-inquiry.
