Yes indeed, Big Swamiji and Br. Dayamrita are coming

to Santa Fe next weekend (not tomorrow) for an

open-to-everyone retreat.

 

I sent out an announcement via the AMMA Center of New

Mexico e-mail News Flash.

Swami Amritaswarupananda and Br. Dayamrita Coming to

Santa Fe in August!

 

The AMMA Center of New Mexico will play host to Swami

Amritaswarupananda , aka “Big Swamiji”, and Br.

Dayamrita for a spiritual retreat.

The official schedule for “the boys’” visit is:

 

Friday night satsang, August 18, 7:30pm with a meal

following. As always there is no charge for this

program.

 

Saturday August 19th – one day retreat starting at

9:30am in the temple at AMMA Center. The program will

include meditation, classes, lunch, video, question

and answer session, bhajans and dinner. The fee for

the retreat is $35.

Those needing accommodations may stay at the AMMA

Center ashram Fri and Sat night for no extra charge.

A certain, pompous conqueror approached Mulla Nasrudin

were given honorific titles, describing their

greatness with the name of God in them: there was, for

instance, “God-Gifted”, and “God-Accepted” and so on.

How about such a name for me?”

Amma To Speak at the UN

 

Amma will attend the World Peace Summit at the United

Nations headquarters in New York, from 28 to 31

August, by personal invitation from U.N. General

Secretary Mr. Kofi Annan. She is to address the

General Assembly on the 29th, speaking about how

religion can play a role in ending conflicts, mending

divisions and bringing people together in the new

millennium. As of this news flash, it is not known

whether She will be holding any public programs, but

as a local devotee pointed out, “if She is there for

four days and doesn’t give darshan, She’ll go crazy!”

Who Shall Judge?

 

When Christ was nailed to the cross and died, he went

straight down to hell and set free all the sinners who

were there in torment. And the devil wept and mourned,

for he thought he would get no more sinners for hell.

Then God said to him, “Do not weep, for I shall send

you all those who are self-righteous in their

condemnation of sinners and hell shall be filled up

once more until I return.”

Amma Along Side of Julia Roberts?

 

The next time your in the check-out line at the

supermarket, pick up a copy of People magazine and see

if there’s a story about Amma in there. Apparently

People magazine spent a day and half interviewing

swamis and others, taking pictures, and (hopefully)

getting darshan during the U.S. tour last month. An

article is due out any day now.

When Amma returns to the U.S. at the end of the month,

20/20 is planning on doing a spot on Her as well.

Maybe next She’ll be on Entertainment Tonight!!

Annoying Spiritual Poetry

 

Surely by now you’ve seen the one about walking alone

along the shore, but there being two sets of

footprints, then just one set again? Well, here’s a

variation on the theme…

 

One night I had a wondrous dream,

One set of footprints there was seen

The footprints of the Goddess they were,

But mine were not along the shore

But then some stranger prints appeared

and I asked Her, "What have we here?"

These prints are large and round and neat,

But much too big to be from feet.

"My child," She said in somber tones,

For miles I carried you alone

I challenged you to walk in faith,

But you refused and made me wait."

"You would not learn, you would not grow,

The walk of faith, you would not know

So I got tired, I got fed up

And there I dropped you on your butt."

"Because in life, there comes a time

When one must fight, and one must climb,

When one must rise and take a stand,

Or leave their butt prints in the sand”
