Guest guest
Ok, I have some stories from the last tour. But first I’d like to offer big, big thanks to Amalia for pointing us in an Amma-prescribed healthy direction and offering 2 perfect quotes. And I’d like to sneak in my own hope that we don’t choose to abandon those who are feeling pain – in spite of Amma’s loving words – hey, we are human. We can address people’s pain – as Amalia did perfectly – without bringing accusation and maligning onto the list, and without causing further pain. These are stories that happened to friends of mine. One of them is on the list but I doubt she’ll tell her stories because they are so personal. So I will not use names. Forgive me if I’m out of line telling your stories. In one of the incidences, my friend had a question on her mind related to a previous darshan. No, actually, I think she had been in the question line that morning, and Amma answered her questions and treated her in a sweet manner, then kind of chuckled and said something in Malayalam that didn’t get interpreted. Well, this friend considers it very important to get all the details in matters – especially matters pertaining to Amma – most especially if Amma has directed something toward her. So she decided to write a note to a fellow satsanger that speaks Malayalam and works close to Amma, asking her (the Malayalam speaking friend), at her convenience, to interpret the part that my friend thought she heard, and get the rest of the words from Amma. Just whenever she had an opportunity. So, my friend was sitting close to Amma in the area where the special needs line usually is – it was that time when they figure no one else will be coming so they let people sit there. At one point, she decided she wasn’t going to use her darshan token because she just remembered that she had forgotten, at the time she got her token, that she had gotten in the question line that morning. She asked someone sitting close to her if they would like a darshan token, and the man responded that no, he didn’t need it, but she should use it herself. She responded that she felt she didn’t need darshan, she felt “full”. The man replied that that is when one should get darshan – one never knows what one could experience. But my friend just chuckled, her mind unchanged. She’s sitting there working on this note, being careful not to miss any special action going on in Amma’s lap. One of those times she looked up, Amma suddenly gestured in her general direction for someone to come hither. She looked around, wondering who the lucky dog might be, and people started urgently speaking to her that it was she who Amma was calling. Who ever believes this? But she did finally get up to go up there, being wary the whole time that it was a mistake and she’d be sent back to her place in embarrassment. She got behind the person who was currently in Amma’s lap, and then when that person left Amma pulled my friend up to her shoulder and gestured for our satsang friend to take a look at the note. The note was interpreted to Amma and Amma just laughed, but gave my friend a sweet darshan anyway. My friend didn’t get the answer to her question – maybe Amma’s having the note read by the person to whom my friend was writing it was for general amusement. I guess we aren’t necessarily supposed to get all the answers to all the questions, but Amma shows that She really does know what’s on our minds and in our hearts, all the time; and what is happening everywhere, all the time. As usual, I’ve gone on too long, so I’ll save the other stories for another time. That everything that comes our way is a gift from God. If it triggers pain or misery than it is a gift that can help us release that which separates us from God. This is how I try to see things, I admit sometimes it's hard. Maybe this could be a new theme here on our list. Here are a couple of Amma's quotes that I find helpful: "It should be understood that external situations don't have the power to hurt you. It is only when the mind interprets those situations that the pain bubbles up from within. A situation becomes a problem when you interpret it in the wrong way. The aim is to not let the mind interpret or comment on external situations. This is possible only when you learn the art of witnessing." Ammachi Awaken Children! Vol IX, pg. 157 "...You will find that the cause of your anger is not the other person but within you. It tis not the other person that causes it. but your past. The past is your reference book. Anger is within you. Someone accidentally touches the anger in you and you erupt." Ammachi Awaken Children!
