Guest guest
Hi Group, Paramahansa Yoganandaji opened the door for me in 1990. I always had a spiritual inclination and was actively searching... testing waters, but after Yogananda I knew just what my specific inclination was. For me, Swami Yogananda was (and is) the REAL THING (although, honestly, I wasn't sure yet if SRF was for me). Some years later... 1994?... I saw Mother's Summer Tour advertized in Yoga International (the best Yoga Mag!) and just from looking at her, i couldn't get her out of my head, especially during meditation. Months later, I pick up a copy of Daughters of the Goddess by Linda Johnson (mainly because I knew, and liked her writing in Y.I.) What a great read! Flipping through... I see the little dark, round, Swamini and although I don't cheat and jump ahead... she is intoxicating me from the back of the book!!! I read chapter by chapter, I'm overly anxious to get to HER ?!?!?! When I flipped the page and came face to face with MA, I burst out crying and immediately had the realization that SHE IS Yogananda - just like that- and that SHE is my Guru in the flesh...and I was so glad she was here... I surendered to HER(I know this sounds crazy to some - but "who feels it knows it")! I couldn't read her story for 2 days I kept crying and wasn't able to get through it (us Amma devotees are big crying sissies aren't we?). I was walking around "high" on the experience and just to think of it.. I get "high". For the years of SRF interest, i never traveled to convene in California. But first thing after the innitial Amma experience I booked a trip (that I couldn't even afford at the time) to NY.. to see HER that summer, WHERE, I was pesonally informed that, indeed, I WAS her "Darling Daughter"! I don't know if 1. Mother is the re-incarnation of Yogananada, 2. Yaganandaji handed me to MA, or if 3. they are both Avatars of DEVI... therefore equal? I don't know. I am just another who wonders about this connectedness. I look forward to what others think... Also, for the Jyotish devotees, you can play with my astrological stats if you want to.. I don't need you to tell me anything.. this is only in the name of the Holy Science and for your pondering enjoyment.. Born: August 26, 1969 Time: 9:41am (E.S.T.and D.S.T.) Place: Ashtabula, Ohio (between Cleveland, OH & Erie, PA in case you can't find the Long./Lat.)Have fun! Blessings to you all and Happy New Year! JAI AMMA! Guest guest
Dear Diana, What a great story! I'm always happy to hear other Yogananda devotee stories! I "met" Yogananda in 1968 and intended to stay on that path (SRF) my entire life. No one was more shocked than I when Amma came into my life like a freight train through the living room in 1995! (I had actually become interested in Her in 1992, but that's another story.)Looking back on it, I realize that She had to do it the way She did or I would not have left what was for me a very comfortable environment. When I mentioned to Amma (in 1996) that some people were going to see my actions as "disloyal," Amma said to me, "Yogananda and I are One. Yogananda has led you to me." I knew all along in my own heart that I was doing the right thing, but at this point in time, as you said, Mother IS Yogananda for me. There is no difference, except that to me She is Krishna, Kali and all the other gods also. I cannot see any of them without seeing Her. She is my All in All. I don't know either about the reincarnation thing, but I do know they are both avatars. When Master (Yogananda) was asked if he was an avatar once, he humbly lowered his head and said, "Yes, a work of this importance could not have been brought by a lesser one." I feel all western devotees of any guru are indebted to this great soul who braved America in the 1920's to bring the liberating message of yoga to westerners. People then had no idea what a guru was or how to treat a guru. He had to put up with stupendous ignorance and prejudice, and yet never behaved in a way inconsistent with the best manners of east and west. His "Autobiography of a Yogi" has had a lasting effect on countless lives. How Divine! Guest guest
Hello! I think the best thing to assume would be that once a soul attains liberation and perfection, they are inseperable from the divine. Amma and Yogananda in their earthly incarnations are both manifestations or extensins of our Divine Mother. Ammachi , Ellen Lamb <jyotsna2> wrote: > Dear Diana, > > What a great story!
