Guest guest
The first time I dealt with lice it was quite a chore...endless combing of my daughter's hair...lots of cleaning and vacuuming etc. Nonetheless it was an amazing experience to sit and comb her like that, grooming like gorillas do for each other. I figured she was in need of my attention. Did I see the lice as a gift?...sort of...I was happy though that soon thereafter a new product came out that was so effective that it killed the lice and the eggs and required much less combing. We used it several times. She was in an alternative school that wasn't thoroughly getting rid of the critters. Then we moved and only dealt with lice one more time until this past spring when my younger daughter caught them from a friend who had just returned from India. Imagine my dismay when I used my trusty product and it didn't fully work. Lo and behold, the lice had grown resistant to it in the years since I had used this shampoo. Ha! They had evolved through many generations in the interim. Well, I did research on the Internet and went out and bought "The Licemeister," the ultimate nit comb. I was able to eliminate our problem by spending hours each day dipping the comb in olive oil and combing, combing, combing...both my daughters' heads and my own. Ok, what were the spiritual lessons. Well, first of all to see that life is life and modern chemistry had only a temporary solution for this age old human experience. My older girl tells me of a fairy tale where a prince has to pass three impossible tests to be able to marry the princess. She wants to marry him so she soothes him to sleep and then summons gnomes to do the work. The way she soothes him to sleep is by picking his lice! Also I found it to be a meditative experience, although the girls say it's not so much that way to be on the receiving end:>) It was one of those times when one has no choice but to stop in one's tracks and focus on the situation at hand. Again I had the feeling of being one with the gorillas; since I love gorillas this was cool. I assume also that some karma was lessened on the process. So I guess I would say that I saw the lice as a gift, as Guru prasad. After all they came all the way from Amma's ashram in India to our home.
