Guest guest
It frightens me that Amma has such faith in the welter of "alternative" methods of healing, which are predominantly not research or evidence-based. Iridology, colonics, homeopathy have no research-based evidence. It might not mean they are useless, but it certainly suggests it. I know I will a lot of flack about this, but the facts are that with these therapies, there is very little evidence. It scares me that it is a great way to attract capital for Kerala. Droves of Westerners, on Amma's authority, will pay big, big, big bucks to get these therapies, when they might be better-served using Western methodologies. These alternatives have a small part to play. I think Ken Wilber, the internationally-respected spiritual writer, whose own wife died of breast cancer, got it right when he said only about 15% of a disease can be attributed to mental or emotional bases; the lion's share will not respond to these therapies. And they happen to be very expensive and uncovered by insurance, quite often (which is changing). I do not like the idea of this village. Sadly, I see it as a way to get Western money for hokey treatments (oh, I know I am so ignorant!), which is inconsistent with what I have heretofore regarded as Amma's wisdom. I feel sick at it all. Guest guest
Questions about the value of alternative therapies aside, do we know whether patients at this healing village will, in fact, be charged for treatments? I can't recall if that was specified in the newspaper article, and I've since deleted it. Also, just curious: Do patients who can afford it pay for their treatment at AIMS? Or are medical services provided free of charge to all patients? Guest guest
Re: Charges at AIMS Those who can afford to pay are charged very modest prices, usually below other hospitals. Last year my friend, a westerner, had to be treated at AIMS. We figured they'd charge according to her ability to pay, but the price was very small. How wonderful our Amma is!
