Long ago, I learned that a little prayer addressed to Hanuman before going to sleep works really well preventing nightmares. He's a deity that traditionally gives strength and courage (both mental and physical) to the seeker, and takes away illnesses of mind and spirit. If you feel more comfortable addressing it to Amma, I am sure it will be just as well. I can testify that it worked! If you like, I can give you the little children's verse I used to say (it's in Malayalam...); but I am sure any prayer would work.
