Dear Nandakumar,

Thank you! You sent me a personal email with the following correction, but I

couldn't QUITE figure out that word, but with this message, the penny just

dropped!! Duh!

Even being a native Malayalam speaker (and perhaps because of it), some

transliterated words just don't make sense since some of the syllables are so

hard to transliterate.

You are right, though. Hmm, what's a good way to explain the sound of the

"nn" in "tannu"?!! Maybe we should include sound files in these postings!!

Just kidding...

Om Namah Shivayai,

Namah Shivaya,

There is no word that can be transcribed 'tamnnay' in Malayalam.

I think it was a typo. The word, as I have heard it in San Ramon

many times, is 'tannenney' or 'tannennay' (the last syllable

rhymes with 'bay'. It is a concatenation of 'tannu ennay'.

'vishwasam tannu ennay rakshikyu' means (translating each word

in isolation),

'faith, having given, me, save!', or colloquially, 'give me

faith, and (thereby) save me'.

In Amma's love,

Nandakumar
