Dear Divine Siblings,

I returned last night after six DIVINE and BLISSFUL days with Amma in

CA. Amma looks very rested. She appeared not to have that much shoulder

pain. I saw only once that she asked for someone to gently rub Her back.

Towards the afternoon of the programs, She used to constantly joke with

everyone. Fortunate were Her older children, who were target of Her

humor!

On the very first day, I asked Thomas (who schedules hall sevas) if he

could give me something. He eagerly signed me up for the morning lap! I

was overjoyed and proceeded to get to work on time. In the beginning,

Amma simply continued without so much as a glance at me. I was relieved

thinking all was going well. Gita (Seattle) was of course there doing a

very efficient job, marshalling people, finding out how many in a group

and what language they spoke, which she conveyed speedily to Amma. I

knew I was there more as a 'token gesture' than doing real seva. As the

morning was very quiet, the crowd thin, and the pace slow, I squatted

down beside Amma. Amma let me sit for sometime, and then said laughingly

to Gita in Malayalam, "Look at her! She is lying down, sleeping,

sitting, thrashing her hands around as she does lap-seva." I did not

catch what Amma was saying, so Gita at first tried to tell me in

Malayalam. When she found I still did not get it, surprised she asked,

"Don't you speak Malayalam?" Before I could answer, Amma said, "No, no,

she was brought up in Bombay or someplace!" I said, "No, Amma! I was

brought up in Jamshedpur!" Amma quickly said, "I am merely joking, let

her stay."

At night, Amma was again making fun of the way I did lap-seva. She said

to the ladies present there, "That Chandrika! She can barely lift her

own body and she was given lap-seva! Her hands were going this way and

that way! I bet it was that Thomas who signed her up!" (needless to say,

Amma keeps track of everything!)

Two days later, Amma was interviewed by the local CBS. They showed about

4-5 minutes' clip during the evening news. I thought the clip was very

well done. The interviewer talked about Amma's unconditional love. He

could also speak from personal experience as he got a hug! He repeated

three or four times that people should go and see Her. Amma has already

fore-warned us that starting from 2002, a huge crowd will be coming to

Her. She told a devotee, "Come to darshan now, otherwise you'll only see

me as a tiny speck from a mile off." One other devotee, who brought her

grandchildren was asked, "what do you hope to get by coming here?" Pat

came the reply, "Salvation!"

Amma also met with the burn victims individually and privately in the

East Ashram. I hope others who were there would also share their

stories.

Jai Ma!

Chandrika
