OAN Gurupoornima, 2001 July 5th In Chicago Accepting, recognizing and realizing the limitations and weaknesses of the disciple, and surrendering to the All-knowing and Omniscient nature of the Satguru is the significance of celebrating Gurupoornima. To really meet Amma and establish an inner connection or bond with Her is the essence of our relationship with Her. Amma, the supreme Master is a constantly flowing presence. We are almost in a stagnant state as far as our inner life and consciousness are concerned. From this stagnant state of existence Amma, the Great Master helps us to arise and awaken and thereby melting the stagnant energy and creating a beautiful flow in us. Only love can make this flow happen. The word 'meeting' has become too official nowadays. Professionals meet! Experts meet! Scientists meet! Business executives meet! Politicians meet. However, do they ever meet in a real sense? No, they always remain distant from each other, because the aspect of pure love is very much absent there. So, though they meet physically they never meet in love. True meeting takes place only when there is love. In Amma's presence, that is, in the Presence of Pure Unconditional Love, a true meeting take place, a meeting between the Supreme Master and us, who are Her adamant children, who have not yet awakened to the state of discipleship. Still we have the longing to meet Amma, the ever flowing, and ever-present consciousness. In our meetings with Amma we get a glimpse of Amma the Divine Master, Her infinite nature, Her Greater dimension. From these meetings a sense of oneness, born out of a deep feeling of love and strong bond gradually builds up. This flame of love will keep growing as we pursue our spiritual practices adhering to the instructions given to us by Amma. Eventually, this flame will transform itself into a wild fire consuming all the limitations and weaknesses created by the mind. As Amma puts it, "Sitting inside the room with all the doors and windows closed we will criticize everyone and everything saying, 'there is no light, no air…this room is stuffy, why is the sun like this, what isn't the wind blowing and so on' However, when we open the doors and windows we will realize that the wind was always blowing and the sun was always shining." Likewise, when our love relationship with Amma gradually unfolds, our heart opens up, and we begin to flow towards Her culminating into a real and eternal meeting with the Divine Master in Amma and Her ever-flowing Grace. Once someone asked Self-Realized Master, " Are you certain that when you die you will go to heaven?" He said, " Absolutely!" The man said, " But how can you be so certain? You have not died, and you don't know what God has in His mind,'' The Master replied, "I am not worried about God's mind, that is His business. I am certain because of my mind. Wherever I am, I will be happy and it will be heaven, so it makes no difference whether I am thrown to hell or to heaven-it is irrelevant.'' Only a Satguru such as Amma can bestow us with this rare gift of having faith in one's own purity. For all the beautiful gifts and boons that Amma showers on us, we, Her children who are still very childish and adamant, and who most of the times judge Her with our limited views and weaknesses have nothing to offer in return. So, let us pour our hearts humbly offering this prayer in return, "In front of Your infinite compassion, love and patience, Oh Amma, at least please help Your ignorant children to remain grateful to You; never let us forget You; and always hold on to Your Feet ever so tightly even in the midst of all our trials and tribulations."
