'Beloved mother' captivates audience

SMITHFIELD - The Mother of Immortal Bliss sits cross-legged on a stage

decorated

with

shimmering green, orange and red silk panels, accompanied by three of

her monks,

her swamis.

 

She is small and round-faced, with a diamond stud in her nose and a dot

on her

forehead

representing the Third Eye. Dressed in a plain white sari, she remains

immobile,

silent, as some 2,000 people sit on the floor before her.

 

Some have been following her for years, heeding her teachings and

lining up at

events such as this to be hugged and blessed, one by one, by the woman
