Guest guest
Dear Ammanetters, In Washington DC this year our most beloved Amma kindly decided to clear up (for this child) the questions around exactly what she has been whispering in the ears of her daughters. I was one who heard "marutu" and wondered what it meant. I had also heard on other occasions "my daughter" or even "my dotter", but that and "marutu" sounded very dissimilar to me, even though I could see how it could be the same if said quickly through "foreign" lips. Well, in DC, Amma, who knows us all so well, started a darshan by whispering "marutu" in my ear, then ever so gradually changed it to "madutu" then gradually changed it to "ma dottu", then "ma dotter", then "my daughter!" with a triumphal Ha! at the end! It was so funny (and appropos!) for this lame daughter that I laughed in spite of myself. Then I went back to my seat and bowed to her, saying "Amma, you have such a silly child!" Then I just laughed and laughed. So, for all those who wonder, perhaps this will clear up any confusion!
