Guest guest
Namah Shivaya, I get a Devi Mandir newsletter from Shree Maa's orgranization. Here are some excerpts that I liked from the latest version: Q. I understand in the eastern way of thinking I am God. If this is so then why do I need to do worship to the murtis (statues)? Shree Maa's Answer. So you remember who you are. Below are some quotes from "Shree Maa, The Guru and the Goddess", by Swami Satyananda Saraswati The following is from the introduction to the Guru Gita, the song in praise of the guru. "For every desire which an individual pursues, there is someone to demonstrate the means to it's attainment. In Sanskrit this is called a guru." .... Seva is by definition different from work in which compensation is expected and agreed upon beforehand. The highest form of seva is when we go out of our way to add value to another persons life without being asked to. There is a difference between seva and karma yoga. Yoga means to unite the individual consciousness with the universal consciousness, the ability to cease the any change of modification in the objects of consciousness. It is any action which induces a state of complete absorption in consciousness. This is karma yoga. .... Through seva to the Guru we earn the privilege of learning and practicing more karma yoga and then we too realize the Self. We become the Guru. We become "Supreme Divinity". .... It should not be possible to have confusion of loyalty to the guru. If I can use all knowledge to become one with God, then this is the highest respect I can show my Guru.I am not abandoning him , rather I am becoming him. Therefore I must take inspiration from wherever possible, from all sources. This is the path he took and the path I must take to become like him. Only two types of individuals would not want us to explore elsewhere: a businessman who has no love of competition, and a fool who says,"I know enough." Until we reach that Self Realization, neither reason is valid. Get blessings everywhere. The disciples' duty is to wear out the steps if a saint is visiting the area.
