Guest guest
Aum Amriteswaryai Namah My dear Divine Brothers and Sisters, Until now, I have chosen to remain silent because I felt that words couldn't possibly do full justice to what I wanted to convey. I cannot even fathom the deep feelings of loss and pain that this unspeakable tragedy has inflicted on the innocent people of America. All of us throughout the world have indeed been hurt by this. And now that this utterly inhuman, bloodcurdling act has taken place, what can we do but pray? Here at Amritapuri we are all praying. Amma has instructed us to perform special pujas for the departed souls, and the residents have been chanting the 1000 names of the Divine Mother, Lokah Samasthah Sukhino Bhavantu, and the Mahamrityumjay Mantra for the mental peace of all those who were directly or indirectly affected by the incident. < As you may already have heard, on the day of the terrorist attack, just before She went to the evening bhajans, Amma spoke to Swami Ramakrishnananda, who happened to be in New York, and Arun. The moment Amma sat down on the stage everyone noticed something very unusual - Amma didn't have the usual tilak mark (the big dot of sandal paste and vermilion) on Her forehead. I, too, found it very strange. One never sees Amma without the 'tilak' mark, especially during public appearances. Almost everyone in the audience signaled to Amma about it. One of the brahmacharis even offered Her some sandal paste. But Amma politely refused it, saying, "It is okay." Looking out at the audience, She said, "Amma forgot to put it on." <It was during the time when Amma was singing bhajans - 7:00-8:00 P.M. Indian time - that the attack, which defied all human values, took place. In India, women refrain from applying 'tilak' when they are widowed; it is a sign of mourning. Later, when I contemplated that particular incident, how Amma came to the stage without the usual sandal paste and vermilion mark on Her forehead, I felt there must have been a connection. <
