Guest guest
Tonight is the seventh night of Devi Navaratri -- the Nine Nights of the Goddess Durga. I'm just curious about how this holiday is celebrated by Amma's devotees -- specifically at her ashram, and more generally in the state of Kerala. Guest guest
helooo padmaji .. I got some info from amma's page itself ( http://www.ammachi.org/events/nc102001.html , oct 18 ) . I am pasting it over here .. " Navaratri is a joyous festival in worship of the Divine Mother. In Sanskrit, nava means nine and ratri means nights. During this time worship of the Divine Mother is celebrated though the chanting of Her divine names, through puja, offering sweets, and singing devotional songs. Spiritual aspirants pray to the divine Mother to bless them with abundance of grace. The second three days of the Navarathri festival are to invoke Mahalakshmi to subdue mental agitations which can only be achieved by praying to the Divine and by constant contemplation. Since She is viewed as a benevolent goddess, she is worshipped for material wealth and prosperity. However, many also worship Her for harmony within the family, good health, and general, spiritual well-being. Since ancient times, She has been associated with growth and fertility.
