I do not know what Amma would say, but I think that what I would do in a

heard that one's Guru picks one as disciple, rather than the other way around.

Om Namo Shivaye,

I share same feelings with you but now I don't worry about it as much

as I used to because I understand that we, ordinary human beings, do

get attracted towards different spices of life.

There are different paths to the realization namely silent

contemplation thru meditation, wisdom thru scriptures, devotion thru

singings, ritualistic prayers, straight karma/seva, ... a spiritual

seeker do get drawn in different directions many times because one

sees the different paths leading to the spirituality. Every group has

their own primary, seccondary, ... methods of helping a seeker.

Eventually a seeker has to discover one or more or combination what

works best for him/her.

Although I have been drawn towards many masters myself but I have

seen the advantage of having a single point of focus, so you can

penetrate deeper. Reminds me of amma's advice (from Awaken Children),

initially you drill holes many places to find our the reliable source

of water for the well but later when you find one right one, you get

water from there. Similarly all the needs can be fulfilled by one

master. I have seen and heard that Amma as well as other Gurus have

directed a spiritual seeker to other Guru if that's better for the

seeker. Every seeker is unique and one has to decide what works and

what does not. In the initial stages, I feel true satsanga is

essential but at the same time one has to be careful of social aspect

of a satsang.

Anyway in the meanwhile, enjoy, learn and be sincere, when time is

right answer will come to you.

Namaste!

I have been having many questions about this very issue, as I am deeply

attracted to another spiritual path/guru, which has resulted in my feeling

very confused and torn with regard to my relationship with Amma. The problem

being that I have already been initiated by Amma. My current spiritual path

requires that I chant a mantra other than the one given to me by Amma, and

also requires that I be re-initiated. I am so afraid to tell Amma my

dilemma, as it obviously would be like telling Her I am rejecting Her as my

guru!! Yet I also sense that perhaps She is the one who led me to this very

path (knowing I would never be able to practice sadhana under Her direct

guidance). I guess all I can do is bring this issue up the next time I see

her:)

Thank you for listening to me ramble!

Namaste Kirsten,

Many of us who have been given mantra initiation by Amma have come to her

from the paths of other gurus. Before meeting her I was initiated into

Kriya Yoga by the Self-Realization Fellowship (path of Paramahansa

Yogananda). However, once I was given my mantra by Amma I felt guided to

direct my energies toward her. Nevertheless, I have pictures of

Yoganandaji, the Lord Jesus, the Blessed Virgin Mary and Mother Kali on my

altar.

Your situation sounds a little different than mine was. My suggestion would

be: Next time you see Amma (are you seeing her in California or Michigan

this November?) - talk to other devotees about this issue and/or talk to one

of the swamis and/or get in the question line during morning darshan and ask

Amma herself.

Another suggestion is to write down this dilemma on a piece of paper and put

it on your altar then pray and meditate about it for a month to see if Amma

gives her answer without getting into the question line. I have a close

friend who uses this method and so he has rarely gone in the question line.

Good luck and Guru's Blessings,

Amritanand

Dear Kirsten

Thank you for sharing this will us. From books i had an idea that a

person can have only one guru during one lifetime. And part of my

mind still cannot understand how the opposite is possible:)

It seems as a rare bliss to have just one guru and guru at all.

Maybe you changed a lot since the time of Ammachi's initiation.

But i am sure Amma knows everything and She is one and the same with

another guru just in different appearance.

And i think because there is only one God that leading all of us and

is in all of us, you cannot reject anyone as your guru, God's

(Amma's) will in everything what happens with us.

Om Namah Shivaya.

p.s. Kirsten, maybe it would be okay if i ask you to tell me on my

email what is the difference in the spiritual paths and external

difference of two gurus, if you are willingly to speak about these.

Because i am very new to the spiritual aspect of yoga.......

Amma would not feel any rejection no matter what you might tell Her ... such

is Her infinite compassion. By all means, ask Her for She welcomes and

invites all questions.

Whom do you feel closest to in your heart: Amma or your other Guru? Follow

that one for a while and see how your growth progresses.

It matters not if you have been initiated before by another Guru, used

another mantra or followed a different practice. Make your choice in your

heart and follow that guidance.

Om Namah Shivaya,

Please remember one thing. Whoever you choose as your guru, the real

guru is none other then the Self. This has been emphasisied by many

great beings such as Anandamayi Ma, Ramana Maharshi, etc.
