Guest guest
One evening, as he was closing his shop, a Vaishya (Hindu of the Merchant caste) overheard an argument. Two young women were having a heated disagreement over which was the most beautiful. They introduced themselves to the merchant as Dhana-Lakshmi (Generous-With-Wealth), and her elder sister, Daridra-Lakshmi (Stingy-With-Wealth), and asked him to choose which one was most attractive. The merchant was in a quandry. If he voted for Generousity, then Stinginess might bestow her "blessings" on his business. If he chose Stinginess, than Generousity might abandon him. Finally, he asked the sisters to walk back and forth before him, which they did, displaying all their charms. "Alas!" the merchant concluded, "How can I choose? When she is walking towards me, Dhana-Lakshmi's beauty is incomparable, but when Daridra-Lakshmi is walking away from me, <she> appears most well-favored." This pleased both the goddesses, and Prosperity spent all her time approaching the merchant, while Poverty spent all her time departing from him, which suited him just fine, as well. [On this eve of Deepavali, the Festival of Lights in honor of Lakshmi, Goddess of Abundance, may you find the two sisters similarly inclined towards you and yours.] -- Len/ Kalipadma ______________ GET INTERNET ACCESS FROM JUNO! Recently I saw one old movie about Shani (Saturn), "Surya Putra Shani", i really enjoyed it. This is about how Saturn became who He is today and His encounters with Surya, Shiva, Laxmi and others. Once he gets in argument with Laxmi who is better and eventually Narad muni is consulted who after careful 'walking' tests comments that Saturn looks good when He is leaving and Laxmi looks good when She is coming. was just fyi Om Amriteshwariye Namah Ammachi, kalipadma@j... wrote: > > One evening, as he was closing his shop, a Vaishya (Hindu of the Merchant > caste) overheard an argument.
