Guest guest
I just heard from my older daughter who attended programs in Michigan. Amma wore a bright, primary green sari. In San Ramon she wore bright red. Hmmm, red and green, Christmas colors. Apparantly in pre-Christian european religion, red was the color for the Mother and green for the son which was how they came to be the colors for the solstice time when the son is born to the Mother. May we all be reborn in Amma this coming season. Love, Amalia
Guest guest
Hey Amalia and friends... She was ***so*** beautiful, but I would describe Devi's sari as a luminous or radiant emerald green rather than primary colored. Also, I didn't make it to San Ramon, so I don't know if the stage was curtained this same way: deep red velvet with gold lame lotuses and 9 sets of hanging bells. Totally different than the hanging saris, and regally beautiful. It was my first trip to Ann Arbor and the midwestern vibe was just as sweet as Guru Purnima in Chicago in July!!! Guest guest
Hey Prashanti, nice to hear from you on the list. Nope - no red velvet or lamé lotuses at San Ramon. It seemed to me during Devi Bhava there were many moments when Amma laughed (although it's hard to remember everything that goes on during the many hours of D.B. When I went up for darshan, she said to me "Circus!" (like so much was going on up on the stage that night and there were so many people (2700 tokens) that there was a circuslike atmosphere on one level). She laughed heartily while saying 'Circus', as did I. This year, they had a decorating party at San Ramon one Sunday before Amma arrived, so the gate to the hall driveway was very festive. And the dining hall/mandapam was finished - very nice to have it that week with the rain. No more gravel floor or rain coming in the open air sides like in the old days! And you should see the beautiful trees that were planted there by the main road just inside the main gate to the property. They were planted in a ceremony for Mother's birthday. Glad you enjoyed Ann Arbor. Your California bro, Amritanand mart0167 [mart0167] Saturday, December 01, 2001 9:27 PM Ammachi Re: Devi Bhava in Michigan Hey Amalia and friends... Guest guest
Dear Sisters and Brothers, The velvet curtains with lotuses were lovingly made by Vigi from Toronto for the Ann Arbor visits by Mother. The weight of the curtains is something to be considered (when Vigi is a very tiny lady to manage the volume of materials). Roberto designed the framework to hold the elegant attire. The backdrop was handpainted by someone from the east coast (please help me if you know) for the Ann Arbor Ashram. Viji is a cancer survivor and so feels she owes her life to Amma. She and her husband Raman helped me translate one verse of the Seawall Bajan into Malayalam, helped me learn the pronounciation and sang it with me in Chicago in July. She so reflects the sweetness of Amma. May we all feel that sweetness in our own hearts. Aum Amriteshvayai Namah. kenna
Guest guest
I know that in the past it has been a very sweet lady by the name of Kamini who has handmade the backdrops. Kamini lives in Western Massachusetts with her family. I used to attend satsung with her there. She also paints those beautiful and realistic silk hangings of Amma. *Lalana --- Kenna <kenna wrote: > Namah Shivaya, > > > The velvet curtains with lotuses were > lovingly made by Vigi from Toronto for > > the Ann Arbor visits by Mother.
