Guest guest
Dear Sasha, Are you going straight from the airport to the programs? Amma's temple in Trivandrum is set on this little lane that branches off a main road. All the houses on this lane leading up to Amma's temple are owned by (wealthy) Amma devotees and the westerners are usually assigned (by Jani) to stay at one of these lovely homes. If you could notify the ashram before you arrive that you will need accomodation, perhaps Jani will reserve you a room on site. It would be a hassle to stay off- site. I'm sure if you contact Dayamrita Swami at San Ramon he could get you further (better) information. I was blessed to attend the Trivandrum program two years ago and consider it one of the highlights of my life. The house closest to the temple belongs to Amma's brother, whose name right now escapes me. The night Amma arrives they fed all the western devotees dinner. After I finished my meal, my roomate asked me how it was. I sincerely told her it was the best meal I ever had in my life. This retired, well-travelled friend looked at me and said, "You don't really mean that, do you?" since most westerners of our vintage have eaten some fine meals along the way. I said, "Yes, I do mean that." Later, after she'd had her meal, she came to me and said, "I see what you mean. It was the best meal I ever had in my life." Of course it was the love in the food, as well as the cooking, that made it so fabulous. Now we know that you're not going to India for the food, but I just tell that as an illustration of the magic quality of life around Amma on the tour. Also, when Amma arrives (finally!) in her car, all the devotees stand on the sides of the drive, as the car oh-so-slowly carries Amma forward. Looking into the car's window and having Amma look back into your eyes is also another unforgettable experience. So I encourage you to attend the Trivandrum programs, but also to do your "homework" and contact both Amritapuri and Br. Dayamrita to see if they have any suggestions. Also, always carry a photo of Amma with you so you can use that to indicate where you want to go in case you lose the Malayalam script with the address on it. Good luck and God bless!
