Amma leaves the Bay Area in November:

It was 4:00 in the afternoon when Amma reached the airport in time to board

Her flight back to India. We, Her children who had gathered at the airport to

bid adieu to our beloved Amma crowded around Her like bees around honey.

Amma found a seat in a corner of the airport close to the check-in counter

and sat down, ready to give darshan- a line of assistants appeared

miraculously at Her feet as they passed into Her hands nuts and banana chips

to give as prasaad; looking at Her you would hardly believe that She had been

giving darshan all night long and well into the wee hours of the morning.

Amma's knowing glance fell and paused on each face trying hard to hold back

our tears of sorrow at the parting. As she gave each one a lingering hug,

many broke down in Her arms.

Meanwhile the woman officer at the check-in counter was getting impatient

with this Indian lady who had not checked in yet. Watching her casting

repeated looks in our direction, we assumed that a combination of the

heightened security regulations at the airport and our distinct difference in

appearance from the regular crowd of holiday travelers, not to mention our

emotionally charged reactions to Amma might have triggered a negative

attitude in her. She half-quizzically watched the "family send off," but when

a Swami requested that the check-in be waived for Amma "as she had many

people to see," the officer shook her head and demanded that Amma come up

personally to receive Her boarding pass. Finally Amma left our midst when she

was called repeatedly to check-in. For Her children it is hard to imagine

Amma having to go through the various airport security checks, but even as we

grow impatient with the security personnel for their seemingly unfeeling

attitudes, we witness how calmly and humbly Amma subjects Herself to the

scrutiny.

Amma was asked many security questions which she personally answered - She

seemed to understand the officer perfectly without the aid of any translation

to Her native language of Malayalam. The check finally over, a request was

made for the boarding pass. To our chagrin, the officer refused to give it to

Her ! " Not unless," she said "You give me also a hug first! ", which

request, needless to say, Amma was most enthusiastically willing to oblige.

Strange indeed are Amma's leelas- Her divine play. It was a heartwarming

sight to see the formally dressed official melt like a small child into our

beloved Mother's warm arms. It reminded us of Amma's frequent words," We are

all links in the chain of life. No one is an isolated entity." We all watched

the scene from a distance and felt the connection with the whole world in the

embrace of our Divine Mother's Love.

I loved that story - thanks so much for sharing it! Having just come home from

a trip to Chicago, I could really imagine what Amma went through with the

security - and how precious it must have been to see one of those officers

receive her Divine love!

Blessings,

Achintya
