Guest guest
Dear Ones, I'm looking for things Amma said telling why she values longing for God. And did she ever say anything about the value of longing for the guru? Need the name of the book and page if you have it...or the place and day (as close as possible) she said it in a talk. Guest guest
Om Amriteshwariye Namah I have been Hindu for my whole life, but I have been exposed to Christianity as well as Budhism also for more than 15 years. To me God is One and IT manifests at many places, in many forms and at various times of all living beings. Saint like Amma is at that Higher State where there is no difference between religions and Love towards the entire universe is the religion. She doesn't take sides due to the person's nationality, etc.... because She is above All in that respect. But we are exposed those differences in the world and we handle as per our own individual maturity and understanding. Concept of Guru as God is well known (but not often followed by most) in Hindu religion unlike other religions. Some hindus accept a Guru as a Guide and teacher, but at the same time they worship Him / Her as God. To me Guru is God/Goddess come in the form of my Guru. I'll take one step further, there are so many Gurus in India and everywhere else and their methods are different. Due to ignorence and group culture, devotees often lose the sight of God / Message of Love given by Guru / .... result= unnecessary politics, which guru/devotee gave what before other guru/devotee issues, sense of ownership, sort of competition among devotees and groups, psychological pressures, etc ... you got the idea ... then original intent of Guru/God/Guide => Love/Wisdom is lost amongst the nonsense (excuse me). But in my personal experience, I was whole life dedicated to the God as "One in Saguna Form as well as in Nirguna Form" respecting and loving all the human beings, sects, religion, .... you got the idea! I met Amma in June 1999 and later came to know of political aspects from other groups' devotees mainly - now I sometime question my ability to have that kind of Faith I used to have. To me, Amma has shown us the path of Love and Devotion ... I recall several occasions when respect and dedication to the Guru was emphasized ... to the extent of God. Then we are caught up in the whirlpool of confusion because we are looking form, ... external appearances. fyi: History and scriptures are full of stories about devotees' dedication towards the Guru. In my conclusion, one who has firm faith in God / Devotion / Love / Wisdom would not have to go thru the whirlpool of confusion because everything is based on ancient teachings (of course with appropriate guidance) and ... respect & love for Guru as God comes natural. I don't believe I answered your question but then I opened up myself in an attempt to show my sincere effort to further enhance my own faith in "The One" without having to deal with the conflicts I have already described. Amma is Above us All so She can handle / guide us thru the maze of confusion but we have to cross those hurdles of conflicts ourselves.... easier said than done - just keep praying we have the right SATSANG so we don't have to deal with this issue of God v/s Guru! One has to realize to answer the dilemma. One can always change the God to satisfy the quench of a given situation - Saraswati for Knowledge, Laxmi for Wealth, Ganesha for removal of obstructions, shiva ... narayan ... OM for everything or your favorite deity for everything! Every Group follows certain methods primarily and there are recommendations made for other methods. But is it easy to flow from one to other group to grasp easily individual practises of different group? I think, after some time one has to just cover the eyes and ignore everything else, ... then there is no question of Guru and God left to be answered. One has to realize it oneself, "Dharma Kshetra Kuru Kshetra" : first verse of Geeta says that our Battlefield of Karma is also the battle fields of Dharma : .... rest is in Geeta! That's ancient, right? .... Geeta works! If One can realize the message of Geeta, then rest is nothing. Gandhi, Ramana, Our Swami Parmatmananda (head of N. America), .... are classic examples Om Amriteshwariye Namah :ekanath PS: sorry i just kept writing my thoughts ....
