Amma invited to 2nd Conference at United Nations

International Forum Conference of Women Religious Leaders at UN

29 December, 2001: Amma has been invited to speak at The World Conference of

Women Religious and Spiritual Leaders, at the United Nations in Geneva,

Switzerland. The Conference is to be held from 25-29 August, 2002, and is an

initiative of The Millenium World Peace Summit, at which Amma spoke in August

of 2000.

"Our goal is to convey the understanding that the love in women's hearts,

which is our power, can contribute to a world at peace."

- Rev. Joan Brown Campbell, Co-Chair,

The World Conference of Women Religious and Spiritual Leaders

At the conference, over 1,000 women religious and spiritual leaders will meet

to call for a greater role for women in birthing a new course for the human

community around the globe-one committed to harmony among people of all

faiths, based on mutual respect and tolerance-with the full support of this

year's Nobel Peace prize winner, United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan.

The Conference will be the first global gathering of women leaders from all

the major faith traditions and all regions of the world. The conference is a

continuing effort of the Millenium World Peace Summit to engage the religious

and spiritual leadership as an interfaith ally to the United Nations in all

its efforts-fostering tolerance, healing and reconciliation; striving for the

economic empowerment of women; protecting and nurturing the world's youth;

and in preserving the diversity and well-being of our planet for future

generations.

Some of the themes to be explored at the Conference include:

Fostering greater dialogue among women religious and spiritual leaders to

explore creating joint initiatives across faiths and religions;

Creative approaches to conflict transformation;

The role of women in healing, forgiveness, and reconciliation;

The economic empowerment of women;

Securing the youth-making education on tolerance and peace a global priority;

Building an integrated framework of religion, government and business;

The role of prayer, meditation and contemplation in building peaceful

communities;

The power of caring, love and compassion to mobilise and transform society.
