Guest guest
Om Namah Shivaya... Dear friends, I am turning to you with this question because I am a little stymied, and thought that perhaps, you, Amma's devotees may have answers or direction for me. My husband recently got laid off from his online publishing job about 3 weeks ago. We live in New York, and honestly, this was no big shock...he had seen the possibility some weeks before it happened. It is happening to so many people that I have lost count! For us, it is inconvenient, but certainly no more yet, by Amma's Grace. The strange thing is that within an hour of my husband telling me he had been laid off, the idea of moving to India temporarily for a year or so had taken persistent hold of my mind. (I am Indian, and my husband is American). And wonder of wonders, my husband (while no Indophile!) is actually interested in the idea and positively pursuing a job search in the Bangalore area. Now being Amma's devotee (though my husband is not); I can't help but think that EVERYTHING happens for a reason and by Amma's Grace. It is so bizarre to me that we should think seriously of this thing at our time of life (neither young or single enough to seek adventure and uncertain incomes) nor old enough to do as we please without worrying about family obligations. My husband was in the midst of a successful career, we have a mortgage, and a 3-year-old. Yet, it seems the career suddenly took a break, the economy is really sluggish, our mortgage is solved by a simple temporary sublet (or so I think!); and our 3-yr-old is young enough to transport without breaking up school friendships or academic considerations!! I put the bare bones of this idea before you, my little community of Amma devotees, to ask if anyone has any ideas or input or similar experience? Any leads or ideas on jobs in India would be welcome,...though we would like to stay in the South and near good facilities for the sake of our kid, and proximity to my family in Bangalore and Kerala. Has anyone else done this with a family? What is it like to get a work permit (I wouldn't need one...but my husband would)? All ideas welcome...
