Guest guest
>From today's Times of India: Fete begins at 2,500-year-old Devi shrine TIMES NEWS NETWORK [ SATURDAY, APRIL 06, 2002 12:02:47 AM ] KANNUR: A concerted effort by devotees to restore a 2,500-old temple to its pristine glory is on in Kannur district. The Sree Chuzhali Bhagavathi Temple at Kadambari in this district is one of the 108 highly revered Durga temples of Kerala. Legends have it that great saints like Agasthya and Adi Sankaracharya worshipped there. With land reforms in Kerala, the temple __ an architectural marvel __ lost vast stretches of land in its control. Soon it fell into financial disarray forcing stoppage of many religious activities, like the Perumkaliattam, which used to be conducted with pomp and gaiety. Now, the only festival held in the temple is the Pattulsavam with contribution from the public. The Punapratishta festivities of the deity by Brahmashree Puthusseri Illam Sankaran Namboodirippad began on April 1. Everyday until the end of this ritual on April 11 there will be poojas like Ganapati Homam and Bhagavati Seva. The Punapratishta of Goddess Bhagavati at the new Sreekovil (sanctum) is on April 8 and the Brahma Kalasholsavam will be on April 11. Religious discourses and daily Annadanam have also been arranged.
