Guest guest
Dear Divine Siblings, Following are some stories we were privileged to hear from a great soul, known as Prana, an Ashram resident. Please pardon and correct any mistakes I make in retelling these stories. Angel of Mercy - Once a native American boy was fleeing in utmost terror as a group of warriors were in hot pursuit. He tried to run as fast as his little legs could carry him. Having reached the forest and coming to the end of his endurance, he fell exhausted. Just then he saw the glowing figure of the Angel of Mercy. With deep compassion and a soft smile, she gently laid him in her lap to regain his breath. By then the group of warriors had closed in. As they approached, the terrified boy was stunned to see her gently hand him over to them. He was crest-fallen, shocked and felt deeply betrayed. He could not believe that the Angel of Marcy would hand him over to his pursuers. The warriors brought him back to the village, screaming and struggling. It appeared that he was the son of a chief who had recently died. It was the custom of this tribe that before a young boy was hailed as the next chief, he had to pass an exam - that of withstanding a fire. Soon a great bonfire was built and this young lad was dragged toward the leaping flames. As he approached, he was surprised to see the Angel standing right in the middle! His hopes soared! He thought that Angel would wrap a cloak around him and save him from burning to death. But alas! No such thing happened. As she clasped him to her bosom amidst this roaring inferno, amidst his soul-stirring shrieks, he noticed that she too burned with him. Soon he lost all consciousness. When the fire had died down, the warriors broght out the lifeless form of the little boy, applied medicinal herbs on his scorched limbs and nursed him back to health. Over time, this boy not only recovered but became a strong leader. The analogy from this story was that Amma does not necessarily take away our mishaps or pain. She does stand by us and suffer our ordeal. At times, it even seems as though She has deliberately led us or pushed us to this painful state, making us very angry, doubtful and suspicious. But after the scorching heat has been borne, the healing balm is applied and we emerge stronger, healthier and brighter in a spiritual sense. (This story especially appealed to me as I have been growing more and more aware of the pain and suffering that abound as we get closer to Amma, the Sun. The heat is unbearable, our cries are endless, the aches and pains searing through our very souls - but through it all, Amma's soothing whispers, cool embrace, calming smiles help us through this excruciatingly painful process. Once a saint said to me - the gold thanks the goldsmith for melting and hammering it to design beautiful ornaments. I do not have the courage to ask Amma for these painful experiences, but I know Amma will grant us the strength to bear whatever She sends us. After all, everything is Her prasad. Story of the Chocolate Egg Prana grew up in a family where her parents apparently were very health conscious. During Easter, the Easter Bunny always brought her carrot eggs. One day the inevitable happened. Someone introduced her to the real treat - a Chocolate egg! That put a seal on her taste for carrot egg. She likened the Chocolate egg to her living in the presence of a Satguru. Until we know the supreme bliss, we run after the ephemeral and transient happiness of this world - wealth, power, beauty, youthfulness etc. But once we have tasted the Supreme Nectar, all other pleasures pale in comparison. Someone asked a profound question - Mother, what is your state of consciousness? Are you aware at all times of everything around you or do you bring up information on a need's basis?Do you hear us only when we pray or do you know what goes through our minds at all times? Do you also know about other planets and universes? Mother's reply was somewhat like this - When I see my children, I feel as though I am looking at a mirror. You are all reflections of my own Self, therefore nothing can escape me. I hear you when you pray and I also know your thoughts and emotions when you are not in a prayerful state. (She looked at me smilingly at this point and I mouthed the second half of the question - and what about other universes and planets? But Amma chose to ignore that part of the question!) The recent Matruvani has some stories to illustrate this point. Once a devotee of Amma was working in the kitchen when a friend approached him and took him aside to pour out his woes. The devotee comforted the distraught man and assured him that Amma was aware of his pain and would undoubtedly help him through this painful phase. Later this man approached Amma in the darshan line and presented his problem. Amma gently reminded him, "My child did not so and so assure you sometime back that not only am I aware of your plight but will help you through this phase?" Needless to say, the man was stunned! This is what happened right in front of me - a very spiritual, yet shy girl wanted very much to speak to Amma. An inability to converse fluently in Malayalam or Tamil stopped her short. She wished in her heart that if she was the puppet and Amma, the puppeteer, then Amma should take the lead in speaking to her. As Amma was putting on Her slippers and giving darshan to Ron, she turned to this girl and asked her why she was not speaking to Her. The girl faltered, "Amma I don't know Malayalam or Tamil!" Amma responded, "Neither do I! So we are alike!" She even went on to say, "Let us put our ears together", meaning the souls will understand the inner voice! Jai Ma! Guest guest
Namah Shivaya It has been a very nice few days here at San Ramon. As others have said there was a great answer from Amma to a great question during the question and answer session. Someone asked Amma tearfully 'Amma, i dont know who you are .I cannot fathom you. What is Your conciousness? are you aware of everything that happens on all the planes etc. Are you aware of us when we pray to You ?Are you aware of our mental states/thougts etc? Amma's answer was so dramatic and profound: "My children are not different from Me. I see my reflection in all of you just as one sees one's reflection in a mirror. I see you all as extensions of Myself.... Lord Krishna used to receive a lot of letters from various devotees but none from Radha , His foremost devotee. When asked why Sri Krishna never receives Radha's letters, He replied 'I am always getting Radha's letters- Radha's letters however are not written in paper by a pen . but in Her Heart using the pen of love and the ink of Her tears...." Amma then proceeded to say that even though She is aware of the mental states of Her children, She does not always interfere- 'WHAT IS THE USE IF I CRY ALONG WITH THEM? THAT WONT HELP THEM.AMMA WANTS HER CHIDLDREN TO GROW STRONG '- by that i understood that Amma meant that even though She is aware of the varous problems Her children may face, Amma does not ALWAYS interfere to solve the problems as that would hinder Her children's growth. Swamiji then also translated saying 'Amma is aware of you all when you pray to Her'- BUT IMMIEDIATELY AMMA INTERRUPTED HIM AND SAID: "AMMA IS AWARE OF YOUR MENTAL STATES ALL THE TIME- REGARDLESS OF WHETHER YOU ARE PRAYING TO HER OR NOT AT THAT POINT" the crowd burst into applause at this juncture. So Amma clearly said that She is aware of us ALL THE TIME. This answer of Amma's is so profound and emphatic that i think it will go down in Amma-lore as a near avataric pronouncement . Her statement that Her reflection is in everyone is i think a simple way of stating the relation between the Supreme Self and the Individual SElf.I think this answer of Amma's is similar to Sri Krishna's in the gita. And the beauty of it all was the profound simplicity and naturalness with which She said it -so casually , almost dismissing the question- "Oh I am in all of you .. i am you ".... Only God can be so simply unassuming about His grandeur- because His grandeur is grand for us, but for Him, it is nothing ,it is his natural state . .. To me, this statement of Amma is i think one of the most dramatic ones She has let slip about who She really is. i wish i could meet the questioner. I wish to thank Her profoundly for this answer that she drew out from Amma. bala - Official partner of 2002 FIFA World Cup http://fifaworldcup.
