Guest guest
While visiting San Ramon this weekend, I heard one of the announcers mention that Amma is now talking aobut Eco-meditation. Does anyone know more about this? To me Amma's life story and the bhajans too are full of examples of seeing God in people, places and things around Amma or around the songwriter. In the Biography, Swamiji tells how Amma resorted to the ocean to meditate during the begining years of her public mission. She saw the ocean as Devi. That's eco-meditation, isn't it? Eco-meditation is a happy suggestion. To see everything around as God revealing Herself, the light of the sun being like the camphor flame circling Devi at archana. If you cultivate such a vision, ....
Guest guest
Amma's Eco-meditation: Eco-meditation is an ideal way to become aware of the dynamic world of nature around us. Here are some steps you can practice daily to get in tune with nature. 1. Sit in an open space, surrounded by Nature or in a room with at least one door or window open and facing Nature. Take time to look at each plant, tree and the sky around you with love and a deep sense of kinship Try to bond with them. As far as possible, try to avoid any other thoughts entering your mind. 2. Close your eyes. Take long, deep breaths. Inhale and exhale slowly. When you inhale, imagine yourself being filled with deep peace. While exhaling, imagine that all your tensions are leaving you. Repeat this exercise three times. 3. Awareness i. Listen to the sounds around you - listen to all the sounds in nature with great concentration, without letting in any other thought. Try not to think - not even those thoughts that are associated with the sounds you hear. Just be aware of the sounds in Nature. ii. Be aware of the sensation of your body touching the earth beneath you as you sit. Feel the coolness of the wind and the feel of clothes on your body. iii. Become aware of the flow of your breath. Try to feel and be aware of the breath entering and leaving your nostrils. As you inhale, feel that you are imbibing the qualities of Mother Nature such as expansiveness, purity, patience, calmness and generosity. While exhaling, feel that your negative qualities are leaving you. 4. Chant 'Om' three times. Imagine this mantra emanating from the core of your heart as you chant. Feel its vibrations filling your being and then radiating outwards, creating positive vibrations in the Nature surrounding you. 5. Open your eyes slowly and let your gaze travel over the Nature surrounding you. Imagine waves of love flowing from you to Nature and from Nature to you. Imagine being in complete harmony with Nature. Try to hold on to this experience for as long as possible. Prostrate to Mother Nature before leaving your seat.
Guest guest
What I posted is Amma's Eco-meditation from a brochure that was distributed about Her Green Friends program. There is also info and a slightly different version of the meditation on the amritapuri.org website. -A-
Guest guest
Are those your ideas Amalia or are they somewhere as Amma's ecomeditation? The hymns are full of so many references helping us see God/dess in nature...that was good for ecomeditation for me. Practices.....noticing or admiring nature and remembering. The chemists can tell us many things about nature but it's beauty and power...these don't fit well into formulas. Guest guest
We're so enchanted with our thoughts, our internal movie. Stopping to notice the world around us is a divergence from bouncing along with our mental chatter. If there is awareness that Mother is the stuff of the creation, the very material out of which it is made, then stopping to hear the birds, feel the air, notice the beauty is a meditation on devi. Even if you're not thinking that way, it's a good station break from the roar in your mind.
