Guest guest
Amma is now in Devi Bhava in New York City. My daughter called about an hour ago from the dining hall and I could hear the swamis singing as the phone was near the TV monitor. Even though the sound was faint, it was exciting. She's wearing a pinkish/purpleish/magenta sari. One of the bhajans they sang while I was on the phone has a lot of meaning for me. It's, "Tanman Ki Pushpanjali" (BA vol. II p. 251). The translation is as follows: O Mother, I have come to know Your lotus feet. Take my body and mind as flower offerings. I have taken refuge in You. Please accept my entire life. Being very dark, the path is not visible. I am stumbling at each step. O Mother, please shed light on the path. Many are those who are slaves of trivial pleasures. O Mother, turn my mind away from them. Kindle in me the nature of devotion and let love for You flow unceasingly each and every moment. The differentiation between "I" and "You," this wall between "You" and "I" is confusing. Removing the distance between "You" and "I" let me remain forever in Your arms. Guest guest
I had friends at the Devi Bhava asking me, "Which goddess is Amma aspecting?" I suspect that the days of specific deities coming through (I understand Amma used to do Krishna Bhava and Kali Bhava) are gone -- it's generic Devi most of the time. But who wears purple? Shot with a LOT of gold thread? -- Len/ Kalipadma On Thu, 11 Jul 2002 01:10:59 EDT adarl52357 writes: > > Amma is now in Devi Bhava in New York City. Guest guest
Amma is no particular form of the Divine Mother in Devi Bhava - she is all of the Divine Mother, in every form, and whatever form you perceive her in. Kali, Lakshmi, Durga, Sarasvati, are all aspects of the one Divine Mother, or Divine Feminine energy. The color of her sari is just incidental to whatever beautiful sari they wrap her in at the time. Before each devi bhava, I try to guess what color sari Amma will wear. Perhaps we could take bets or post odds on it? I would have lost. I had guessed brown or maroon (sort of like the Washington Redskins jersey), but she appeared in purple/magenta last night in NYC. Jai Ma! Keval Sign up for SBC Dial - First Month Free http://sbc. Guest guest
Namah Shivaya: This was by far the largest crowd we had in New York. The token numbers reached 3600 and I heard someone say that this was indeed the largest gathering we ever had for a Devi Bhava in the US. Last year we had about 2100 for Devi Bhava and it looked crowded. Many people said that this nearly 75% jump in attendance was related to Sept.11. Devi Bhava ended at 8:15 AM. Amma looked radiant and just as bright as when she started more than twelve hours ago. We all felt sad as always when She disappeared behind the screen. Many of us had to run out to feed the parking meters as another business day had already started outside. I want to thank the incredibly dedicated volunteers of the New York Sat Sangh who made this such a well organized event. So, for many of us, the high point of summer in NY was just over today. Guest guest
Sometimes local devotees will buy her a sari and she¹ll wear it for that Devi Bhava. > This child was told Amma chooses the sari after the puja from an array her > attendants offer her. >
