Guest guest
> Do they ban people from anything else? > Courses, both academic and meditation-related. Living on campus. Even being on campus in some cases. One fellow who particularly irks them (He is an outspoken but IMO, articulate and generally constructive critic who once published a newspaper called ³Survival in Paradise² and is soon to publish an unauthorized collection of lectures given by Maharishi¹s master) has had a restraining order issued, legally forbidding him to set foot on campus. > > They can't keep you find doing > pancha-karma routines, etc, can they? > They could, but I haven¹t heard of instances of it. They do ban those who provide professional Ayur-vedic or Jyotish services independent of the TM organization. > > I mean, what if you read a book from > a non-TM source? Do people have to be afraid of what they buy at Revelations > bookstore? > Not really, but a friend of mine had a hard time getting back into a degree program he was in the middle of because he married one of the ladies who owns Revelations. > > It sounds like an absurd example, but what's the difference > really? How far can you go in enforcing ideological purity? Maybe people > should start wearing "Banned in the Vedic U.S.A." t-shirts! > It is a badge of honor in a way. You don¹t get banned for seeing Amma or other saints once or twice. But if you ³make a habit of it,² as I have, they have a problem with that. They have also disallowed quite a few visiting saints and others (such as an Aborigine healer) from taking a tour of campus, which they requested to do, and even sent Shree Maa away in the middle of one, when some higher-ups heard she was on campus. All of this doesn¹t bode very well for the future of the University or the TM Movement, IMHO. Someone told me recently that some Jyotishi said that Fairfield will continue to be a spiritual community, but will be predominantly under the guidance of a different master. Interesting rumor. Who knows? Right now, Maharishi and TM are predominant, but it gets more eclectic and diverse all the time, and Ammachi¹s influence is large and growing.
