Guest guest
Swami Dayamrita gave a satsang once and we started off with a short puja. He said after it was over that it is not necessary to do everything perfect if we are doing the puja for meditation-to focus our mind on God. However if we want a particular material benefit then it has to be done precisely-like when we pay a pujari to perform a puja so it is done "correctly"

If you're doing puja for devotion's sake, then I'm sure it's as Dayamrita said that it's not that important to do things correctly. Besides, it's always a good idea to include an apology for errors at the end of a puja. Here's the page from Amritapuri about pujas: http://www.amritapuri.org/cultural/homapuja.htm
