Guest guest
In re: confused interpretations of Amma's whisperings... At my first darshan, Amma whispered to me, "ram... ram... ram... ram... ram..." Five rams. And I thought, "Oh -- Rama? He's cool, but I'm not much into Vishnu's avatars." I've become convinced Amma reads our minds when we come up for our hugs. At any rate, she said, "No..." and whispered again, "Rang... Rang... Rang... Rang... Rang..." Five Rangs. With a nasalized ending. I remembered reading about the Bija Mantras associated with the chakras. "Rang" is the sound for Fire, symbolized by a red upward-pointing triangle, and centered at the Manipura (solar plexus) chakra. Amma beamed, said, "Yes!" and whispered yet again, "RANG! RANG! RANG! RANG! RANG!!" And in my mind's eye, five red triangles appeared, and formed a five-pointed star. This figure is A.) a yantra for five-faced form of Sada-Shiva, and B.) a pentagram, symbol for the Western occult tradition of Wicca (which I have studied for many years). I took this as a sign that I had come to the right place for a guru! Amma placed a dab of sandalpaste on my forehead, nodded in agreement, and said, "Ha!" And I've been going to her darshans whenever she comes to New York, since.
