Actually, it said in the newspaper (San Francisco Chronicle) today

(11/26) that there had been 40 or 50 small quakes (!!) on a

previously unknown fault line off the Calaveras, a fault that

branches from the well-known San Andreas fault. Further the report

said that this many small quakes occurring over two or three days was

quite unusual and none of the seismologists knew quite what to make

of them. Were they keeping away The Big One? Or bringing it closer?

Or, was that Mother modifying the otherwise Big One? They didn't ask

that of course.

The quakes that we felt -- and I felt another one this AM at 4 --

were the larger of the cluster.
