Guest guest
Dear Divine Soul! What the author presumably meant is that the word "Hindu" is a misnomer. It comes from the word "Sindhu", a river flowing in Punjab and parts of Pakistan. It is believed that when Nepolean attacked India, the Greeks could not say 'Sindhu' and ended up saying 'Hindu'. On another note - what is Amma's religion? LOVE and only unconditional love. Religions are like modes of transportation carrying us to our Supreme Goal. The ignorant quarrel over these modes of transportation and even refuse to get off when they have reached their destination! I recall a video where Swami AmritaGitanandaji said, "Amma taught me how not to be a Hindu." Meaning She taught him to experience the freedom that can be experienced only when one breaks the bondage of the 'isms'. There is a common Indian saying, "You can be born in a church, but you should not die in it." We are certainly born in a particular country, a culture, surrounded by a language and belief system, but it would be a pity if we remained in the same state throughout. To say Amma's religion is 'Love' is also erroneous. Hindus have called this state 'Turiya' the namesless state. One can understand this by the simple parable of Sri Ramakrishna Paramhamsa - once a salt doll went to plumb the depth of the ocean. But as it entered the salty waters, it dissolved! Who remained to come back and report? Dear Omenka, Mother, as I understand, has no religion. She needs none. She is beyond it all. It is we who need the cars, airplanes, bullock-carts, rikshaws, pullies etc. to somehow to get to where She is. As I write this, I recall a song my sister once wrote - "O Kanna (Krishna) searching for thee, I looked hither and thither Until I realized you always were hidden inside my heart." Jai Ma!
